Bret Hart Was Quite Good

This match is actually funny in how awful it is :joy:

That match is everything anyone needs to know about Hogan. I don’t blame Warrior for taking the payday at all.

This is the PPV where DDP hits the cutter and really should have broken the streak right? He was so over it was incredible at the time.

Imagine if WCW spent 1998 transitioning from the older generation to giving the younger / newer singles stars a real spot at the top of the main card.

The top of the card in 1998 should have been built around Bret Hart, Goldberg, Booker T, DDP, Scott Steiner, Sting and then the likes of Benoit and Jericho should absolutely have been knocking on the door of being in that mix by the last quarter of the year.

If they didn’t botch Starrcade ‘97 ending and the introduction of Bret Hart they could have made a lot of money off Sting as champion and Bret had so much traction from the screw job and being the biggest heel in the business after Hogan in 97.

This PPV was awful if I remember right though. Couple good spots here and there but largely an indictment to WCW’s clunky and confusing booking.

Trump has a strong knowledge of combat sports but I wonder where his knowledge of wrestling sits. This will be fascinating. Nobody can deny he’s a character lol

He was so over as a face Vs McMahon in that feud :arteta:

He had a bit of a connection to WWE throughout Vince’s tenure.

He’s bound to say some gross stuff in support of Vince if it comes up.

Yeah, a counter on the Jackhammer into the Diamond Cutter. Was a really nice transition, the crowd was absolutely ready then. It’s less about Goldberg losing and more that DDP could’ve been a star right there, right now.

The older generation still had value imo, the wolfpac was popular. The problem is obviously Hogan at this point who wanted things his way at the expense of everybody.

The booking however was absolutely putrid, Scott Hall vs Nash, Sting vs Bret, Hogan vs Warrior all back to back ending in nonsense ways. Self-harming at this point which gets to its breaking point at the Fingerpoke of Doom.

Bret, no matter what excuses Eric Bischoff makes he made a cock up of his handling of him. He should’ve been another face against the nWo.

Objectively bad PPV, it’s a damn shame because I loved the set

Loved this shit over the ugly big screens you get these days.

It’s your lucky day @DavidHillier and @Josh, Samantha Irvin has left WWE.

Really? No more screeching?

How come though.

Ricochet is her partner, maybe that’s a factor.

Still, this seems abrupt.

Not sure, I saw her make a post on Insta just a bit ago.
Haven’t seen any other info on it.
I wouldn’t be shocked to see her join Ricochet in AEW. Schedule is much easier and she may even get more money out of them too.

It’s been awhile but doesn’t AEW have Justin Roberts, how many more they need.

Best Irwin in wrestling was Irwin R Shyster.

Maybe Justin Roberts comes back himself?
WWE doesn’t really value their ring announcers like that though. They’ve always been very comfortable with replacing them with others from developmental.

Ricochet just loves burning bridges.

Yeah good point. Nothing here worth being interested in.
