Benjamin White (4)

James Sands from the USA or maybe we’ll go full Everton and have a Keane/White CB pairing with Holding/Chambers behind them. That might just get me to stop watching.

Those edits for the thumbnails.
Especially that first one.

I really do not know what we’ve seen in him to justify £50m on this transfer. Honestly can’t even say I remember him play last year, and certainly no outstanding performances.

Before the window opened most supporters were saying we need a top quality AM, CM, RB, GK and cover for LB but I don’t remember anyone was saying that a Brighton CB would be our marquee signing.

I would have thought that our priorities were in the more attacking positions.

It’s like having the headlights go on your car then going to the garage and asking them to pump up your tyres.

I agree. The other positive is Gabriel and White are both the same age so this could be our CB partnership for the next 10 years. Both are very similar type of players and I think they could form a very strong partnership. English tax on this transfer, but we are paying over the odds for a CB with a lot of potential who will only get better. Definately an upgrade on Holding, but saying that Mari and Holding aren’t bad backup options to have.

Just need a top quality RB and a new GK and our defence will be rebuilt.

Really pleased we have got this transfer fee agreed…hopefully we can now push on with a couple more signings.

Don’t get your hopes up. It’s the hope that kills you.

I don’t have time for negativity! This is a good piece of business for Arsenal.

We said that after wasting 30m on Saliba.

White could be a good signing but for 50m he has to be.

When I eliminate the price tag in my head this is a superb piece of business.

I’ve been critical of the club in the past for seemingly not being aggressive enough when pursuing talent and one thing I can’t take away from this current regime is that once they identify someone - they are aggressive in pursuing it and meeting them fee.

Saliba can still have a future at the club. The fee for White is a lot, but I have faith that he is going to be a good signing for us.

Bruh u really are smoked out af :grin: Has there ever been a CB partnership at Arsenal for 10 years? No because either they will suck ass and we won’t use them anymore or they will be good and get bought by a proper club :joy::joy::joy:

Agreed. No time for doom merchants.

This is where most try to convince themselves that it’s been a great signing all along, time will tell but expectations are super high.

People can talk about the going rate all they want but if he’s nothing short of a top player then it’s failure.

I’m not referencing the White deal, just the idea that we’re going to nimbly pivot to signing two other big pieces of the puzzle. We don’t don’t do that.

White as a player is fine. The context is what worries me. If you separate him from the price and the opportunity cost, yeah, great work by Edu and Arteta. They identified a young player and got him.

But in context, was he really worth spending all this time on? All this money? And at the cost of pursuing other positions? Ben White isn’t going to put up 10 goals and 5 assists. I think he probably replicates some of Luiz’s better passing skills and hopefully without some of the Luiz-style fuckups.

I think it’s the wrong position to go big on right now when we need more goals.

Agree but they still have what another month to do more? We will see what ends up happening.

That’s fair. I’m very skeptical because we’ve been down this path many times before. We’ll see if Edu is more than an empty suit.

Like, he’s decent. I think he’ll do good here. But in the grand scheme of things I don’t see much changing. For what will probably be our ‘big’ signing of this window. It’s an issue.

That’s fair. For whatever reason RCB was considered a priority for the club going back to December last year when Ornstein reported it.
I think the concern is that this move could affect our CM and AM signings, or at the very least the quality of those signings.

We’ll see how that pans out of course but it’s gonna be hell in here if we fail to properly address the positions we are lacking in.

I do hope they spend a ton of money on their targets because if Arteta is allowed to spend and he still struggles, that’s the nail in the coffin.

Full confidence that of we hire a good manager after he will get much more out of this team especially if it’s an improved version.

One of the things I don’t want the club to do is not back Arteta over any kind of uncertainty. Like you said, if we get good players in and Arteta fails then a new manager comes in and inherits good players.
