I watched him more when he was in the Championship with Leeds on loan. He was fantastic that season. Player of the season for them. Havenāt watched him as much this season because Brighton bore me to tears.

I think that is the worse possible comment you could make about Whiteā¦from what I have seen of White (and yes I have watched a lot of YouTube videos since we were linked with him), he is an effective defender, stands his ground and was very comfortable playing the ball out from the back.
I couldnāt see any comparison with the fuck wit you mentionedā¦

I canāt explain it. I just get bad vibes. Maybe itās the price tag, maybe itās the fact that I donāt rate Artetaās ability to evaluate talent or his ability to manage young talent. Maybe I just expect someone weāre about to spend Ā£50m on to be a lockdown defender.
The whole Saliba thing adds another angle to it for me too. Was the club just so poorly run under Raul that we signed a player we had no plan for?
And then thereās the order of things. We havenāt sold anyone, we havenāt signed anyone to help is score goals, we havenāt signed anyone to partner with Partey. Itās just underwhelming.
It does kind of feel like White is Artetaās version of United signing Maguire as others have mentioned. It better fucking work.

I think we all have to get over Mustafi. He was a total fuck witā¦I maintain that Ben White is not in the same category as Mustafi, just from what I have seen. He is a young talented CB with his career ahead of him.
As for Salibaā¦lots of talk that he is going to leave on loan or be sold. Personally, I have a feeling that Holding or Chambers will make way for White if we sign him. Gabriel/Mari and White/Saliba could be our CB options next season.
Arteta has done fine in the transfer market IMO. Partey, Gabriel, Mari and Odegaard were all good signings. Ryan was a decent loan and I think Cedric has been ok for us and was a shrewd signing at the time given that we didnāt know whether we would have European football last season. As Iāve said before I am going to reserve judgement until the end of this window. Still have faith in Arteta and Edu and think we are going to have a big summer window and make some excellent additions. I also think the fact we bid for him, maybe a sign we are going to spend this window, but letās wait and seeā¦
As for Arteta as a manager/coachā¦the players all speak highly of him. I give that a lot of weight, especially when players like Tierney and Saka (i.e. the future of the club) speak so highly of him. They donāt seem the type of player to blow smoke up the managers arse!

Players donāt typically give interviews throwing shade at the manager. All that resentment just kinda simmers in the background.
I do think Saliba will be sold this summer. Itās a huge disappointment and a real black eye on the club. Even if he doesnāt turn out to be a generational talent it just makes the club look sloppy and like we have no clue how to manage young players.
A rotation of Gabriel, Holding, White and Mari is ehh. Fine?
Iām not as forgiving of Artetaās movement in the market. Willian was a total disaster and we all knew it from the jump. Offering Mustafi a contract before paying him to leave is not a good look. Cedric was a bizarre deal that looks worse now. Turning down money for AMN last summer was dumb since presumably the club knew he didnāt want to stay. I just think Arteta likes a certain type of player (docile, hard-working, willing to follow instructions and not improvise) and I prefer a little more zest in the side.
But my assessment is definitely biased. I think he should have been fired in December.

Is it comparable to Luiz-Holding-Gabriel-Mari?
If yes, why would we trust Arteta with 50m to spend on another CB to basically keep the backline at the same quality?
Maybe Ben White will be amazing, Iām just not sure this is where Iād spend all that money.
