Which means our negotiating team will use none of the leverage you’d expect a club to have when bidding for a player in Sesko circumstances and just pay the full price after months of protracted negotiations

80m Euros (£67m) sounds about right with add ons. I want to get this deal for my guy wrapped up sooner rather than later. Can’t wait to see him bang his first one in at the Emirates :red_circle: :white_circle:

Anything over £60 million for a player who has proved nothing so far is a complete rip off.

I have a feeling that’s going to be quoted back at you within a year.

That’s the same stubbornness that’s seen Arsenal miss out on talent in years gone by. We are going to be getting a quality player and if he bangs, expect to see this being quoted back at you!

If he comes in and scores more than he has before it still wouldn’t change the fact that here and now that would be too much for the player we’d be getting as it stands

Because in your mind I said Sesko was shit whereas what I said was paying over 60 million for a player who has this far proved nothing is a rip off. Which it is. But one opinion has nothing to do with the other.

Højlund vibes

You’re scaring me.

He’s scored 13 league goals this season. If we pay over £60 million for a striker and he scores 13 goals next season, that’s a dog shit signing.

What is your valuation of him based on the scouting/data analysis you’ve done?

I haven’t done any scouting or analysis. I simply think it’s overpaying for a player who hasn’t done anything notable yet. A fee like that is for the finished article, not for a player with potential.

He’s more proven but yeah, essentially paying a premium for the player he could be rather than the player he is right now.
I’m still a bit skeptical on the figures making the rounds though. Very inconsistent from report to report.

Well there are plenty of posts of you saying that he isn’t a good player, so how about you just pick one?

In any case, I’ve been the only consistent supporter of Arsenal signing Sesko on OA. I’ve stuck my neck out because my gut feeling remains that this IS the striker we need at Arsenal.

It’s a mostly vibes-based assessment then. Fair enough.

Well it’s not so much vibes as the simple fact that he hasn’t scored goals in the quantities that would justify that kind of fee, but sure.

I’ve said both he and Gyokeres are underwhelming options, and that they show how poor the striker market is, sure.

It’s unsurprising you’ve consistently supported him. It’s been clear that he’s been the club’s long term target for over a year and as with politics, when it comes to Arsenal, as soon as you see something is an official opinion then it’s got to be the most wonderful thing ever and any questioning should just be waved away.

Interesting.

Clubs are quite regularly paying these type of fees for relatively unproven players. We all hate the market these days but it’s just reality particularly with a position like striker.

I think you’re scraping the barrel with this comment. I have been consistent in my views on certain players, including Sesko, even when the rumours were pointing in a different direction and when I’ve been in the minority on OA, so the idea I’m aligning myself with an ‘official opinion’ or going with the flow is just stupid.

The reality is that you like to disagree with my opinion and seem to want to always prove me wrong.

Tbf I always thought everything over 50M for a guy with his CV is a stretch and still think the same way, considering what I know about him.

But, if the club thinks he’s a special talent and he really ends up like one I don’t care if we pay 50 or 100M.
Even if he ends up a flop, it won’t mean much if we payed 10 or 20M less or more. I won’t be happy in the slightest if he ends up a flop and we get him for 50M and sell him for the same amount (even for a profit).

We really have to get it right with him. That’s all that matters for me.
Again, the price always sounded absurd (as almost all the prices these days) but let’s see what he’s got to offer.

It will be specially interesting to see how both he and Gyokeres turn out when they make their moves. If Sesko ends up a flop and Gyokeres turns out a hit (in the PL) that will be the biggest mistake here, knowing, by all accounts, we basically had a free choice between them, Gyokeres being the cheaper option too.
