Aston Villa - Arsenal (PL) 1-0

What a load of shit. The players were down hurt because villa kicked the shit out of them.

To some degree I agree but we have to play the game in front of us. I think if we didn’t go to ground to easily we might get more calls from the ref.

Tell me which tackles you think didn’t warrant going to ground then?

Going to ground did Villa fuck all harm in the free kick stakes.

The ones where they got up afterwards and were able to play without problem. I agree the ref wasn’t the best and some things should have been called that were not.

So basically every foul that ever gets committed in football ever then. If that’s the bar then villa were far worse offenders than us last night. So what was the game we weren’t playing exactly?

Based on what?

I think, as a ref, you would be more sympathetic to players not going to ground so easily and the dramatics.

Why did he give villa so many free kicks for exactly that then?

Maybe one odd ref, but most refs ignore what happened if the player gets on with it. There have been a few instances in this season where players haven’t gone down in the box/outside even when fouled and hence not received a penalty/free kick.

Overall, there is no denying that our players, especially the more creative ones like Saka, Martinelli and Jesus take a lot of punishment each game, and the refs hardly ever step in. The first 3 - 4 fouls against our players in most games are freebies.

Our players were kicked and pushed and bumped and wrestled for so many times every game… most of them did not even get a whistle.

then Rice had one foul today then got a yellow.

WTF

Have no idea but just surmising that this might be a reason. It is kind of like the boy who cried wolf. After a while it is tuned out.

You’re just not dealing with facts here.

You either have a go at all teams that do this (and i think we are among the lesser offenders in this regard in the whole league) or it looks like you’re just intent on slagging off Arsenal. Certainly, we were not the worst team for it yesterday.

I certainly don’t like the drama by any team. Try watching the Copa America or qualifiers. I hate it across the board. It is one reason I stopped watching football for a while.

This makes no sense. If you get kicked you get kicked and it fucking hurts. Have you ever played football on any level before? This is the elite level. I would like you to feel the love of Douglas Luiz’s iron studs on your ankle.

Aston Villa have dropped no points at home this season, with strongest defence, that’s why I thought we’d probably lose, especially after they’d just beaten Man City and we scraped a win against Luton.
So although losing isn’t great, it’s not like we were outplayed and got thrashed.

But our next away game is Liverpool and we really have got to get something out of that.

Liverpool are not looking great so we should have a chance to get something from Anfield. But just like last season, Liverpool at Anfield is just a different beast even if they get behind a few goals. They dont play pretty football, but they press, harrass and cross dangerous balls into the box galore.

Defensively they are fekin shite and Martinelli will have to be on his A game with all the space he will get on TAA’s area.

The reason they were not that, is because we did not allow them to be that. On another day we win that game 3-1 or 4-1. Officials dont award a valid penalty, they also chalk off what should really be a goal or a pen. Those decisions go out way and we win 2-1 whilst not taking our chances.

Then not directed at your post: Great do demand more of our players and I do, guaranteed Arteta is, but its also OK to demand more from officials at the same time. In my 36 years following Arsenal, I have never been more negative about officiating. Is it just the PL or do the other top leagues have just as many awful decisions every week?

Just rewatched the game, no way in hell did we deserve to lose that game.

Kai Havertz scored a perfectly fine goal — he’s turning into such a fine player btw, he’s playing with some real intelligence, poise and commitment… I honestly didn’t think we’d ever see this kind of performance from him.

Can’t believe we conceded so early, under ridiculous circumstances; we can only blame ourselves for that one.

There has to be an agenda against Arsenal with these refereeing decisions, there is no way that happens to Liverpool or Villa and the decisions go the same way. What’s the point of competitive sport, if those in charge of enacting the rules fail to do their jobs properly. For a game at the highest level, this was an absolute farce.

I still maintain that we haven’t actually lost a proper game of football in the league. Both losses were due to PGMOL cheating.

That being said, we had enough in our locker to put the game to bed. Shocking performance from our front 4; arguably the worst finishing from the lot of them in a very long time. Not sure what’s going on with Odegaard lately, something just isn’t right.

Need 6 points from Brighton and Liverpool next.
