Arsène Wenger

Mate, you could have said that last summer, or the summer before that and it would have been equally appropriate. What does that tell you? Certainly doesn’t tell me that this is his last chance at getting it right. As far as the board and Gazidis are concerned, they will have him as long as he wants to be here. As far as the fans are concerned, the club doesn’t really care cause they still fill the stadium (more or less) and still make enough money of us for it not to matter.

At the end of the day, I don’t see things changing no matter what the outcome of this season. While we don’t have what it takes to mount a challenge for the title, we are certainly good enough to finish in the top 4, and if that looks to be doubtful, we will splash the cash (that we have loads of) in the winter.

If he doesnt like the way the game is now he should take his moral stance and resign.
Yes its getting to massive amounts for players. Thing is though people like him and our board have told us for years its a business and were a brand.
Also no mention of prize money being bigger than ever. Partnership deals bigger than ever. Throw in ticket prices and shirt sales being higher and his wages being higher and his moral crusade loses its moral compass.

Wenger moans about average players being too expensive and more clubs wanting success and spending a lot of money to try and achieve it.
Yet he pays less than average players like Sanogo, Bendtner, Chamakh, Park, Almunia, Flamini etc top wages, and average players like Walcott, world class players wages.
He is also is one of the highest paid managers in Europe with the least amount of success, so it is a bit hypocritical when moaning about other clubs spending to get success.

He talks as if we are a poor club and these other clubs like West Ham and spurs, are richer than us and its unfair because they are trying to get better players than us.

We have around 200m to spend on players and have gaping holes in our first team, so what is he waiting for?

I’m of the opinion they should have brought in a fee / wage cap around the time Abramovich took over. Was clear the way the game was going and would have created a far more even playing field going forward.

Except the european union would have blocked such a move…maybe Brexit will have an upshot after all…

That would just shift the talent from the PL to other leagues, which would in time push the PL below the other leagues, decrease TV money, etc. Great if you’re the local fan supporting a club and don’t mind watching teams of average English players play against each other.

He never complained about being at the forefront in terms of managerial salaries, but when it’s grotesque sums of money that don’t involve him it’s scary, and frightening and confusing, and he has to take a little nap just to deal with it all.

How is this not a bigger point that gets brought up by pundits/fans/etc? Wenger makes a shit boat ton full of money. paid like a top 5 manager at a club that Wenger Fundalmentalists like to say “can’t compete” and “doesn’t have unlimited resources” and “won’t pay the worlds gone mad prices” for player you’re all fucking deluded and this is the main reason why: WENGER IS A FUCKING HYPOCRITE.

Do you know what’s scary to me? Giving managers that are apparently “scared” to do their job millions of pounds and extension after extension. It’s easy to see why no one ever signs here…would anyone want a manager that is afraid to mix it up with the big boys because “the market isn’t fair it’s sooooo scary”? Don’t be fucking scared Wenger…I don’t care if you don’t agree with the way the market is but don’t be scared. Sac the fuck up, go out there and find a way. Instill confidence in players with bold and timely decisions. Change the play, change the tactics, try a fucking sub pre-minute 70. Just do anything besides being scared it’s pathetic.

In fairness I wasnt being serious.

You lot are talking as if Managerial wages have reached crazy amount.

Managerial wages have been consistent over the years.

Wenger’s wages have not increased with increasing player transfer amount.

That point would only have been valid had Wenger’s salary also increased exponentially alongwith player transfer amount.

I think player wages would be the more fitting comparison and not transfer sums and Wenger is definitely up there with what he earns, at least in comparison to what players at Arsenal earn and let’s be real the majority of clubs out there.

That being said I don’t have so much a problem with it as he’s been in his job for 20 years and you’d expect someone who’s been in his job for so long to earn a really good amount of money. It’s kind of stupid to believe that a football manager shouldn’t be earning more with every new contract he’s given, similar to how it works everywhere else…

Let’s be honest Wenger certain doesn’t deserve to be on what he’s on atm and certainly doesn’t do enough to justify unconditional contracts. Our ability in Europe would be enough to get any other manager sacked when given the resources we possess. Anyone with the slightest bit of objectivity can see that we haven’t been good enough for quite some time.

When he signed his current contract he definitely deserved what he got, but tbh the situation has changed a bit since then and I’m with you that anyone would have a hard time to justify another bump and extension without some real improvements and success in the coming year, so yea, you’re right that we haven’t been good enough since then and Wenger is a key part to that.

I feel like it’s exactly the opposite. The old timers (and the smarter newer fans) know that Wenger isn’t Arsenal, and that there has been success without him. While the newer fans have only had this demagogue to worship, that took them to an unbeaten season and a new giant temple to house the cult of Wenger in.

@morrisc311 I’m agree with you Morrisc, isn’t a problem of old or new fans, it’s only a cultural problem.

I might’ve agreed with you in years past but at this point it’s just an Arsenal problem.

Len’s literally spinning in his grave listening to that garbage. It’s genuinely the complete opposite to what that twat is spouting.

Anyone regardless of age who has supported Arsenal for the majority of their life should know the score by now, the problem is all these young, naive fans who found Arsenal through shit like the internet - r/gunners. They truly believe that by unconditionally supporting Arsene Wenger they are better fans than people who tend to acknowledge that there are massive gaping issues with this club.

It’s the goddamn hipster mentality of the youth these days to be contrarian by nature. The longer you spend engrossing yourself in Arsenal the more you realize there are problems. Arsenal is not fucking Arsene Wenger and if anyone gets that it’s the veteran fans.

Champion should lose the attention of anyone with a brain when he brought out the opera analogy, yet I see people everywhere talking about how much sense he is making.
