Arsène Wenger

Zinchenko strikes me as a Wenger fanboy, not surprised.

There is no doubt that Arsene made sacrifices for the club when he could have perhaps walked away, and for that, the fans and the club owe him a lot.

But there’s also no doubt he made some strange decisions, which the lack of money didn’t explain. Like persisting with Almunia for so long, or bringing in United rejects like Silvestre, or that Summer when he only signed Cech & Elneny, or signings like Chamakh, Squillaci, Kallstrom. Also for all the times he let players go on the cheap cause he didn’t want to make things ugly, or how he handled player contracts.

What would be hilarious is if Wenger got Mudryk to play like prime Cristiano for one game lol

We’ve come a long way the last few years. Now to build on that.

Gazidis called it too

Is it safe to say that we’ve got our Arsenal back?

This is a new Arsenal, a new era

Ive never seen us spend money like this. Bring in players like this. Be linked with such high quality players as we have been.

We are moving up levels here.

That’s true, I remember the days when Arshavin was our record signing… and he was only something like £17.5m

When Wenger bought Perez for 20m, it was the most we’d paid for a striker and didn’t even start him.

There can’t be many that miss the transfer windows with Wenger and the board boasting that they’re only interested in “super quality,”
Then watching them endlessly haggling for underwhelming players, or often not bothering to get any players at all, because they “didn’t meet with their valuation.”

Considering all those seasons, where our net spend was almost nothing, this recent investment in players is no more than we deserve and what one of the richest European clubs should doing.

He called it but never delivered.

He didn’t really call it… It was mostly just PR to restrain the angry crowd when they (we :arteta4: ) were asking for his head while we were desperately just clinging on to the top4 and were happy with that (I mean him and Wenger, and most of the squad).

Or taking until August to wrap up one signing.

Edu et al would have secured Suarez for us. No way would they have bid £40m+£1 and then got cold feet, walking away without making a serious offer.

to look back on this… can’t say we were messing around but pretty ignorant and naive.
Wenger and co were completely misinformed and thought 40m was the release clause, but then later found out there was no such thing at all.

If they had offered £45m, it would’ve gotten rejected, but we wouldn’t have been laughed out the room. We could’ve easily bought Suarez back then, Arsenal were superior to Liverpool back then. (We are now too)

And had we of done so we would have been champions

This whole bollocks surrounding the release clause makes me laugh, I don’t care what club you are, if you’re told on good authority a player has a release clause of a certain amount why the fuck would you bid a single penny over the amount that the clause is triggered at.

I wouldn’t go and buy a £30k car and offer the seller £35k, absolutely absurd thinking.

Because it wasn’t a release clause.

First Ive heard of that

I thought John Henry admitted later that there was a clause but that they (Pool) thought sod it, we not selling…
