We needed a win like this. I hope this win was more on us finding our form than Palace being poor. They were okay in the first half but definitely dropped off 2nd half. Need another big win next week and even a bigger win at home to L’pool the week after. Please let this be a turning point for us! :crossed_fingers:

Got family visiting so was out for lunch and couldn’t watch the game.

How were we in an attacking sense? Seems an odd question to ask when we’ve just won by 5 goals, but I see Martinelli was stat padding in injury time, so the score might not actually reflect our performance or be indicative of attacking fluidity.

We certainly didn’t create a thousand chances like we’ve done in games recently but we had a few very good ones.
Our set pieces were also really dangerous. You could sense something could happen in all of them.

Palace also got nothing on the other end of the pitch and had to do with long range attempts.

Just a very controlled and dominant performance.

Didn’t catch the game, who were the best players today?

I wanna say Gabriel. Raya wasnt bad despite having a near miss first half.

I’d say Gabriel Magalhaes and Saliba. Raya made a couple of good stops and played a part in the third goal, was decent.

Gabriel and Saliba were both excellent. I thought Raya had a decent game, with some good distribution. Rice was also solid until he was taken off. Martinelli had an excellent cameo performance with two goals.

Jesus had a top game as well. On another day he walks away with a hat-trick of assists.

Disagree. Jesus was the most frustrating player on the pitch today. The crowd were getting really annoyed with him being offside so many times. He wasn’t timing his runs at all well.

Thought Jesus was pretty good as well, didn’t get any real chances in front of goal unfortunately. One half chance from wide inside the box.

We were actually worse in attack than we were before the winter break cause we didn’t really create any chances. It’s possible the early goal had something to do with that but apart from the goals, Henderson didn’t really have much to do.

Have to say Gabriel Magalhaes and Saliba were solid. No one else stood out for me.

Overall, it was a rather dull 5 - 0. But this game was all about getting the 3 points for me so job done.

As for our goal scoring woes, the score line would suggest we are back to our best but that isn’t the complete truth. The first couple of goals were the most important and those came via set pieces, which might be our best bet against teams with a low block. The 3rd goal was the best of the lot for me, very reminiscent of goals Liverpool and City score, although, if I have to nit pick, I’d say it was a goal on the counter so we didn’t break the low block. The last 2 goals were again on the counter, when the game was pretty much over. And all this was against a very poor Palace side.

All in all, am still not convinced our goal scoring problems are behind us.

The obvious answer is obviously Gabriel because of his one a half goals. But no one really played badly. 7/10s all round I’d say.

Sounds like the world’s most depressing 5-0 victory, glad I missed it.

I enjoyed the game. We played within ourselves because we really didn’t need to do any more but we were in total control.

We were never going to come back from our recent run all guns blazing but i think we still saw the benefits of the work we done the last two weeks on the field today. I also think some elements were different like Jesus clearly being more open to making them runs that kept seeing him be offside but its gonna take a minute for some of that to work itself out.

No short or near post corners was different too
