Arsenal Vs Chelsea (PL)

They didn’t look good with the 3atb stuff in the last game they tried it… surprised Lampard went with it again today. I think we actually have a very good chance precisely because of that.

All you nelson haters will see.

Watching Arteta interview on NBCsports, love how Arteta just slates the fuck out of the Emery era with no mercy :joy: . No typical managerial niceties here

no matter how I turn that lineup around surely it’s a 3 man midfield minimum, right? Either 4-3-3 with Özil on the right or 4-3-1-2 with him behind AubaLaca? Or are we pushing Nelson up and let Özil sit back a bit.

Chelsea’s midfield is stronk right now, we need to fight it but we’re in for a difficult task, especially in contrast to Bournemouth who didn’t even play with midfielders at all last game. Strikers are fine just in rough patch, Leno is the best keeper in the league (inb4 jinx) and the defenders I don’t even pay attention to any more, any combo of them it will all look the same lol

edit also as MM said bench is ever so thin.

AMN, SAKA, NELSON these young players will be pushed off the ball by more experienced opposition players. They have the desire but lack quality. Draw at best imo hope I’m wrong.

what he say?

You could call Arteta the ‘Emery Era Enema’

(Or maybe you couldn’t…)

Auba’s captain notes ahead of the game:

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says Mikel Arteta has made an instant impact since returning to the club as our head coach.

The Gabon international scored the first goal under our new boss, during our Boxing Day draw at Bournemouth, and is hoping to help Arteta secure his first three points against Chelsea at Emirates Stadium.

“We need to make sure, all of us, players and fans, that he has a successful home debut,” Aubameyang told the official matchday programme . "He’s only been in charge for a few days but we’ve seen a big difference already. We needed someone who would come in and shake the whole squad up.

"We needed someone with new ideas, with a new message and someone who would take us in a different direction. Mikel has brought all of that. We needed a fresh new start and something different and we can feel it already.

"He is very rigorous and demanding on the training pitch. It’s all about details with him so he talks a lot, repositions us, explains a lot of little things.

"If you analyse our display against Bournemouth closely, you can see tactically the changes that Mikel made, like the positions of our two full backs, Mesut and I playing between the lines behind Laca, Granit’s position as well in the build-up play.

"His message to the players was clear and well received. It was about attitude and commitment. He wants us to be at 200 per cent all the time, to give everything we have and leave it all on the pitch. It’s exciting for us because it’s so different to everything we have done and experimented with before.

“It is a new dawn and you can feel how positive everyone is at the club about it. We could also close the gap on Chelsea to five points with a win. We need the Emirates to be a fortress and make it really hard for Chelsea. It’s Mikel’s return too and I’m sure you will all be really up for it and we need to feel it.”

I believe he has an acute case of douchebagitis.

I’d say it’s chronic. And incurable.

I just want Ceballos back :sob:

The other midfielders, aside from not being very good, are just so boring to watch.

Line up is okay but needs a sprinkling of Pepe

"Absolutely, we need to connect again the team with the fans, it seems in the last few seasons there’s been a big disconnection, and we’re losing a lot of power, I said before that they are probably the most important part of the football club, it’s going to take some time the process, but hopefully we can start to engage them again.

“I think many things happened in the last two season that have a strong say on the situation right now. What we can do is they have to feel that this place, every time they wear this shirt every time they jump into that pitch, they give absolutely everything, and they have to feel that there is a sense of what we are trying to achieve, if they can see that them reflected with an identity that is close to what they are used to seeing from Arsenal, they will come back.”

“I think there are some non-negotiables, the demand we put in, the comittment we put in, the energy that we have to play with in this football club, that dominance, you know, that we are the biggest football club in England, and we have to play a little bit with that arrogance, as well, with that belief, this stadium has to create fear again, you know I used to hate coming here as an opponent, and we need to use that power, the opponent has to be uncomfortable playing here, and we need to recover that.”

“This club deserves nothing else but excellence, and excellence is to be the best every single day, and the demands for this football club need to be this, and everybody that jumps through that door has to understand that is what we are going to be requiring, the demands on us have to be this, if we fall short it is because we don’t have the level or the capacity, or because someone else was better, at the end it has to be that.”

interviewer so this is not just about getting back into the top 4, you want to go beyond that:

“Absolutely, and it’s going to be a long process, and a lot of things have to be done right, because, I think, now, we talked about a lot with the director, the margin for error at the moment is very short, because the gap is getting bigger and bigger, you know, so we have to make a lot of decisions, and a lot of good decisions.”

How do you go about it?

“Clarity. You need a direction, you need a vision, and you need action. And everybody on board has to believe that that direction is what you’re going to take to be successful, if people start to doubt in the process because of one result or two results or because one little mistake we make here, you have to be ruthless, believe on that, and go, foot on the gas, and go and go and go. There are going to be some bumps, you know, but as I said to you, direction, clarity, and vision, if we do that and they follow us, in the long term we will be fine.”

I was quite confident Nelson will get the go ahead again and I’m not so against it. He offers us a lot more width than Pepe and more match sharpness.
