Highly unlikely we bring in our number 1 CM target in January.
We are definitely short but if we can’t get the premium player we’re after, then a loan is the only sensible option. Can’t commit a big chunk of money to some third rate option when our funds are limited.
Suspect the same will occur when it comes to buying a CF.
I’m expecting an underwhelming loan signing unless we can somehow pull off the Vlahovic transfer.
AMN should have been retained to the end of the window given the circumstances, if Xhaka isn’t ready for Thursday and Sunday it’s going to be diabolical.
Granit “Like a new signing” Xhaka is what we’re getting. We’ll end up with a striker or nobody this window and a lot of chatter about being focused on targets for June when salaries start coming off the books.
The club have had their midfield targets for weeks if not longer, they’ve known about AFCON for months as well. I had a small sliver or hope that letting AMN go this early meant we had someone just waiting to make a move but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
They do and they don’t. AMN moved fast, Piatek moved fast, it requires all three parties to be on the same page when the window opens and I wonder if some sellers may be paralyzed depending on how their campaign is going. Take Fiorentina as an example, pushing for European places is huge. I’m sure they’d be reluctant let their centerpiece leave.
Midfielder incoming. The timing got all messed up but Xhaka is not a long-term option, neither is Elneny or AMN and Patino is clearly not ready. So sending AMN out on loan tells me that someone is coming in.
Arthur would do nicely as a more long-term option, Wijnaldum on loan & a striker will give us the best shout at getting getting an ECL place this season.
This team could well do without cup games as Covid-19 starts to cause fixture chaos later on in the season, Forest may have been a blessing in disguise (literally in disguise, as Tottenham).
