I’d say the worst thing would be going another season or two with a set of two to four strikers who are pretty much all gonna struggle to get ten league goals each lol. That’d be much worse than having a potentially excellent striker wanting to leave in two years.

Two years of excellent striker is not the worst thing. We had about two years of excellent Auba before he turned to total shit, that was better than never having him imo. If only the issue was Auba agitating for a big move that bags us a fat wedge of cash to recoup what we spent on him, rather than turning to total shit and looking like he’s worth relative peanuts, while not offering us any goals or anything else that’s useful. Not a striker, but also, see Ozil.

Selling him on to a big team for a profit in a couple years would also be much better than it going the same way Pepe has, where a few years later he not even worth half what we paid and hasn’t even come close to representing value for money.

I’d rather have two years of an excellent striker than four or five years of an average striker like Giroud or Lacazette.

I know I’m in danger of taking your use of “worst thing” far too literally, so apologies, but I really do think that buying an excellent striker and selling him on for a profit after two excellent seasons really is much better than quite a few alternative scenarios and that that’s a point worth making.

I do think you make a very good point. You can probably tell from my posts that I am an optimist and idealistic so that is usually my starting point. I would agree that if the choice was to either buy an excellent striker in the knowledge we would only have him for 2 seasons but would score tones of goals for us, versus persisting with a player who was committed to the club, but nowhere near as good, I would obviously opt for the better striker.

However, my concern stems from the situation we had with Alexis. Initially there was an excellent team dynamic when he first joined the club, but when he didn’t sign a new contract and he wanted out, the team dynamic and togetherness was lost. We appear to have real togetherness atm with the group of players, and I really don’t want to disrupt that. That’s one of the reasons I have been so focal about Guendo and that I didn’t want to see him back playing for the club again.

I am very sad about the Auba situation. I hope that he can be integrated back into the team as I don’t think he has lost his quality and love him to pieces. We have an excellent history of great strikers, so I really hope we get someone truely special.

This is the culture of fear. You’re basically signaling you have no firm confidence in the club’s position in the future.

Ambition would be taking the risk and being confident the club will be competitive for CL/PL to satisfy the player competitively

Interesting to see Arsenal fans struggling with the reality that they’re never going to secure genuine known top talents unopposed these days.
