Aouar at 25-30m seems like pretty good value the more I consider it. People seem to be slamming him and treating him like yesterday’s news for whatever reason but he had a sneakily good season, at least statistically. I wouldn’t necessarily want him as an alternative to Odegaard/Buendia for that #10/right sided creator role, but I’d love him as a replacement for Xhaka/Ceballos as a player who could play in a double pivot at times or as the left sided 8 in a three man midfield with Partey at the base. He has played that role a lot for Lyon . He is also only 22 years old so we might not have seen his top level yet.

Sucks Lamptey got injured. The havoc he would produce with Saka or Pepe on the right. :grimacing:

He didn’t want to join us last summer, he surely won’t want to join us now.
I think it says a lot that he is not even considered as backup for Odegaard. Arteta wanted him badly since he was at City. There were rumours that hin and his family were asking for signing bonuses.
His price if anything will alert the likes of Madrid, Juve and Barca, which are notorious for giving away insane signing bonuses on the down-low.

I’m not sure we ever got the full story about why the transfer fell through last summer. I don’t think its necessarily true that he didn’t want to join us, there were issues negotiating with Aulas and then the brother reportedly asked for a huge agents fee at the 11th hour.

If Madrid, Barca, or Juve are in for him, then we won’t get him. But all three of those clubs are broke and none of them really need a player in this position.

I don’t see him as an alternative to Odegaard because Aouar almost exclusively plays as some kind of left-sided midfielder, whether a CM or more attacking, whereas our current setup has had Odegaard always as the more attacking midfielder on the right. Aouar also has a lot more experience playing as a true 8 type player, either in a midfield two, or in a three man midfield where the 8s really have to be all action. He is really a much closer comp for Ceballos than for Odegaard IMO.

Juve do, Madrid too. Not sure about Barca but they’re also known for buying players the don’t need.

Madrid and Juve are going on a selling spree so they can raise Aouar’s transfer fee and work out how they’ll pay him later.

Loving these rumors, or should I call it ‘ideas’ of us getting some PL proven players for the upcoming season where we basically only have PL to play for.
It’s smart and it would be effective, especially if those buys are, as mentioned, Bissouma and Buendia (will add Neves to that list myself), as they both fit our tactical needs/players we already have.

Sterling?!

Not surprised. Foden is better from the left side for City. Sterling’s had a disappointing season and Pep has sort to coach out the exciting, unpredictable elements of his game.

Mahrez is a bit more surprising but I guess age is a factor.

Let’s not get sterling had enough players here only coming for the money I rather we get Mahrez at least he’s a workhorse

If we spent a good portion of our transfer kitty on either of them this summer, just shoot me in the head.

We don’t need wingers and we need young players who will increase in value, not older or late prime players on massive wages who are just going to collect checks then see their value crater by the end of their contracts.

If Arsenal sign Mahrez, it would be curtains for Pepe.

Sterling would make more sense given his age and position, but his wage demands would be Aubameyang size. We’d be paying Champions League wages with no European revenue streams. Bad idea.

@Flexo unless we are moving someone out on big wages like a shock exit for Aubameyang, Lacazette and Willian (just for budgetary reasons), I agree with you. Could Sterling play as a striker in the Lacazette role? I’m not so sure but I remember reading a lot of propaganda about how Arteta worked so well with him at City.

Imagine having any faith or actual care in what this club is doing.

When you see reports like this.

Next we will see reports that Arsenal are after a striker and a new starting LB.
