Partey doesn’t seem like it’s happening. You’d have thought there would be some connection / synergy between the loaning of Torreira and Partey moving the other way, but doesn’t appear to be any link whatsoever.
Wonder what our second choice option is. My Youtube scouting of Soumare has impressed me a great deal. Seems to have a real combative nature coupled with a wide passing range. Very mobile too. He’s on some Inspector Gadget shit the way he can dispossess the ball with his long ass legs.
I think this guy is really intriguing just from youtube scouting and reading about him in various places on the internet. Started as a CB but has been mostly playing DM - big, fast, athletic, but also impressive with the ball. He seems to have the tools to be that kind of Fabinho/Fernandinho type of player who can cover enough ground to be a lone DM behind two more advanced midfielders, but with enough ball skills to be a cog in the buildup. We have been linked to him but not super heavily.
Apparently we’ve had some sort of longstanding interest in Partey (per The Athletic) which makes me think the club became aware of his release clause and thought they could either negotiate it down or pay it through other sales. The continental market collapsed for UK based players on high wages and Atletico don’t want to sell and therefore have zero incentive in negotiating. We’re getting really close to “only bought a keeper” territory if we end the window sans a new midfielder.
This should be a big day for news. Penultimate working day before the deadline on Monday. I know deals can be worked through over the weekend but you’d just expect to hear some shit today if things were going to happen for the big targets.
If we get limited quality movement we’ve had a disgusting transfer window coming off an 8th placed season.
I’ll also start believing we only got Arteta not because we thought he’d be the next big thing, but because we thought he’d be a rookie yes man like @Stroller@InvincibleDB10@DavidHillier feared.
I still have hope something good will happen for us before the window closes, I have to believe because our current squad will be pushing shit up hill to come 6th.
I’ve remained relatively calm about transfers until now, but anyone who believes only signing Gabriel to a squad that finished 8th with 14 wins from 38 games is enough is smoked out as fuck.
