For me:
- CB
- CM
- Winger/striker (if Auba leaves)
- Another CM

For me:
I donāt know how you cannot say that two midfielders are a priority for this summer. With Saliba, Mari, Martinelli and Saka weāve 4 players who need minutes to develop and or show their worth for us. Why make a couple of big signings for those positions right now? In that sense somebody like Willian makes more sense. And for cb weāve already got Luiz.
2 Central midfielders are the biggest priority for me
Then a striker because laca and eddie are beyond average
Right back
Weāve been desperate for a competent DM since Gilberto left.
You need goals and creativity from the midfield. Has to be the midfield targeted.
Weāll never achieve anything with no creativity. One good player who could bring that could transform us.
The odd defensive lapse would be less costly if we could make and score goals consistently.
I think we bought ourselves another year until we have to buy a CB. With a tight budget, we need creativity and someone who can control the game when we have possession. If we keep hold of both Auba and Laca, then I wouldnāt waste what little money we have on another forward player. Let our youngsters get some playing time as @SDGooner says. Focus on midfield. If we can snag a good defender on a free, then by all means, get him too, but we really need to be able to break sides down when we have most of the possession. We have already seen that we can be smart and counter against top opposition. That should get us a quite a few points next season against the top 4, but we canāt keep dropping point against lesser opposition.
Normally iād say itās agent talk but heās a Kia Joorabchian client apparently.
Or it could be a new low where an agent is using his proven proximity to the senior management Arsenal to plant false links as leverage contract negotiations
The one way Iād fancy this is if it was a Saliba type deal which was a masterstroke.
Midfield is the engine room of the Guardiola / Arteta philosophy.
We need to put proper players in the centre of midfield.
We will see the absolute biggest return by investing in this area. An all round creative midfielder in the Santi mould who can play deep and also carry the ball. Then an upgrade to Xhaka.
In the centre of defence weāve got Saliba and Mari coming in so thereās already a lot of new faces in that position. Iād still want one more class addition but the return on investment wonāt be as high as buying 2 CMs.
Creative midfielder is our biggest need amongst many, our midfield is absolutely sterile.
If this actually turns out true.
The Joelson to Arsenal rumour looks like a classic case of an agent (Kia), using a big football clubs name to intensify interest elsewhere. I donāt believe it.
Yep. I cannot see that weād spend ā¬45m on a kid with no (or next to no) first team experience. Especially given our current circumstances.
I agree.
This is the position that is lacking in quality and arguably our best player in that position is Ozil who is clearly not in Artetaās plans
Weāve always had great players that can provide for the strikers, especially when Wenger was winning the PL title, but since Cazorla left and Ozil has lost form we have had very little creativity from midfield so I would imagine this and a CB would be the main priority for Arteta.
The only problem is that good players like this donāt come cheap and he might prefer to get someone like Willian or Courtinho who would be free or on loan so he has money left for the CB and DM positions.
Whatever happens, he isnāt going to get it all done in this window.
Problem is we need at least 2 in the area. One isnāt going to cut it. Injury risk is too great. Iād take Willian alongside a younger player. Courtinho is an interesting one. He was so great for Liverpool, but he just hasnāt seem to be at his best since leaving. Havenāt watched enough of him to know if it is the systems heās been in or what. If we got both him and Willian, it could buy us a year. If Smith Rowe is given some playing time, he may prove himself, and if not, then we have to go all out next summer.
Itās so tough at the moment. We donāt want to over invest in older players, but we one in mf wouldnāt hurt if he can perform and provide more leadership. My worry is that so far, the creative mf youth players havenāt impressed. Smith Rowe looks like he could possibly make the jump, but we wonāt know until we try.
Enough rambling. Curious to see what we do in this window.
Willian and Saka for LW?
I would go for this.
Willian might be an older player but he is still effective and proven in the PL.
If we could get him, or Courtinho, as well as a younger player with potential, it would be affordable and mean we had two players for a position we are desperate for quality in.
I would love Willian here if we got him on a 2 year deal but for 3 years it just doesnāt make sense.
I can handle 2 with an automatic year extension if he plays on 20-25 league games in his second season. Because youād assume that if he makes that many league appearances in year two then he does have some on pitch value.
But I just canāt see the logic in giving him longer than that.
