Arsenal transfers 25/26

Of course. And enough will change already. With the amount of defenders on the books already Arsenal is not going to invest in those positions.

To be fair, we looked much more solid since Arteta came on board.
The defenders market is a tricky one for PL sides, could easily buy yourself an expensive flop. I hope we aren’t just buying for the sake of buying.

We have, but we do not have the quality of players in the back four that we need. Saliba looks like a very good buy, but we need a long term partner for him at the centre of our defence. We need to have a clear out and we should, for once, make our marquee summer signing a defender. You win titles by having a good defence.

Mustafi, Luiz, and Sokratis are not going to cut it next season so sell them and reinvest in a top quality player. Collectively, the three of them cost us Ā£300K a week in wages, so it isn’t just about money for transfers…we could sell and be able to structure a deal for a top quality centre back this summer. Yes, we could pay big money for a flop (like we did for Mustafi), but you could say that about any position.

Again, that’s a fair point. But can you name me a few defenders right now that you know for sure are worth heavily investing in? Personally, I can’t.
We’ve heard the rumours about Upamecano but the lad always looked shaky whenever I’ve seen him.
All I’m saying is, if they truly can’t find anyone worth the investment then don’t just sign someone for the sake of it.

Only surprising thing there is the use of maybe for mustafi

I also confirmed this by knowing what the rules are.

ummmm ā€œmaybeā€? MAYBE???

David Ornstein on Coutinho to Arsenal: ā€œI’ve seen plenty of reports like you. I can only express my position as things stand & that’s that I have no information on this. That’s not to say it isn’t [happening], I just don’t know anything about it.ā€ [The Ornstein & Chapman Podcast]

It seems like Dave lost his source(s) at Arsenal :grimacing:.

Sources tell @BBCSport Arsenal have not submitted a bid for Lille forward Nicolas Pepe and do not have the level of money being reported (€80m) to sign the Ivory Coast international this summer #LOSC #AFC

I wonder who told him that for him put that out there so confidently

I think it’s BS too. But I was more referring to the fact that he has no information whatsoever.

Might be that when he tweeted that it was true and we hadn’t submitted that a satisfactory bid yet.

Can’t be arsed to find the tweet and check the timings lol

This was after: L’Equipe claim #Arsenal made an €80m bid for Nicolas Pepe on Thursday. This has been confirmed by the entourage of the player.

Ornstein might still get dripfed info when the club wants him to know but he doesn’t get heads up in advance about it

The Pepe thing leaked in France, Arsenal wanted to keep things under the radar so when Ornstein asked they fed him last summer’s fairytale that we’ve got no money and business would be limited unless we sell first.
