Arsenal transfers 25/26

Mikel Arteta’s suggestion possibly?

Very, very, very, very interesting player.

Please respect treble winner and Hollywood defending extraordinaire, Tommy V

So this is a case of Arteta using information he had at City, then? :eyes:

Matviyenko is decent though. I’ve followed his career for a while. For at least 10 minutes.

I don’t think he is allowed to claim that CL title.

My memory might be failing me, but Vermaelen in his debut season was a monster front foot defender. Then he got injured and was never the same level again for us.

In those first few months, he made a massive difference to us. Put some respeck back on his name.

Never forget when he ran the length of the pitch to stop Celtic from scoring after a break away from a corner.

Madness.

Wasn’t called The Verminator for nowt :sunglasses:

Vermaelen got that reputation because of the 7(?) goals he scored that season, but was always an average defender.

Average is harsh. On form, he was a very confident, aggressive front foot defender. It was a massive contrast to what we had in the squad at the time. It probably boosted his standing in the eyes of fans at the time. The goals helped build his reputation too (wrongly as a defender) but he was never the same (for the rest of his career) after that big injury he got.

There was just a very poor cohesion between him and Gallas.
As a one on one defender, Vermaelen was quality.

His last minute winner against Newcastle is one of my favourite Arsenal moments

Plus he got bonus points for doing this

Unable to find the video where you can hear the commentator die a bit

Loved Vermaelen when he emerged for us, and yeah, the goals definitely helped. Seem to remember a few of them being screamers n all.

But in a cohesive defence, with a well suited partner (basically a pure fantasy, as a modern day Arsenal fan), I’d love to have a player like him again.

TV was fantastic for us (especially the start of his Arsenal career) would have made a great partnership with the Luiz version of Chelsea at the time

this Matviyenko guy looks to have only recently been getting proper games for Shakhtar though, has been sent out loan to lower teams in the league apparently (according to wiki)

23-24 seems like a good age for a defender to hit his stride.

Another project probably…he has only estabilished himself as starter this season.

Arguably the best young defender in Europe.

I missed Arsenic.
