Arsenal transfers 25/26

Heh. And being jealous about not being down with the gnarley GASPARGODTETIOLAREIGNISMO and acting out is why English tourists are by far the most disdained :v:t3::v:t3::partying_face::partying_face::kissing_heart::kissing_heart:

I want what you’re having

We’re not signing anyone this January are we? Don’t know why I let myself think otherwise

I’d really like us to take a punt on Edouard from Celtic. I really like him.

I doubt it, unless we sell to pay for it.
If it means that Arteta takes the rest of the season to have a good look at the players to find out who he wants and doesn’t, is probably preferable.
If he then makes a few very good signings in the next window, as well as getting rid of players he doesn’t think are good enough, I’m all for it.

He hasn’t really been here long enough to make any conclusive decisions about our players yet.
There are probably players that weren’t performing under our previous managers that might be more suited to Arteta’s style of management.

We need several top quality players in key positions so it might be better to wait, rather make panic buys in this window, which we know isn’t an ideal strategy.

I never thought I’d see the day that you advocated us not making a signing in a transfer window haha.

Well reasoned post though. I completely agree. If we don’t sign anyone this window, I wouldn’t be too mad although I do think we need a new CB but we’re unlikely to get the requisite quality for a reasonable fee.

I’ve seen enough inadequate transfers in recent windows that didn’t seem very well thought out.

Also, this season is a write off anyway and if we do finish outside the top six it might make the board realise we need some serious investment.
So waiting until the next window will give Arteta a bit more time to assess the squad.

Saying that, I won’t complain if we buy Ziyech and Upamecano in this window. :grinning:

Think Mustafi and Mavro may be off and someone else will be brought in for cover.

I was arguing against Boateng earlier in this thread but after watching Holding against Leeds I’m starting to change my mind.

We’re basically one Luiz/Sokratis injury away from Holding starting every important match and Mustafi making the bench at a minimum and starting when we have to rotate. And if we get some good league results over the next month we may end up in the position where we feel the need to start strong sides in both the league and Europa because we still have chances in each competition.

Paradoxically, if the results are mediocre against Palace, Sheffield United, and Chelsea, then I think we have less pressure to buy, because it means 4th place is basically gone and we can largely focus on the Europa League. We’ll still want to finish at least 7th but that really shouldn’t be too hard.

The issue with Boateng is I’m willing to bet if we signed him tomorrow we’d get about 10 games out of him on big wages. It’s just not worth it.

We’ve got Sokratis and Luiz in the experienced CB department so either we put the money into someone proven and at a good age like Umtiti or we sign a younger CB with a high ceiling like Upamecano.

I’m not interested in anymore short term fixes.

I’d be fine if we signed a couple of under the radar, high potential youth signings this window. Like you guys have mentioned above, I’d rather we didn’t squander our money on pointless transfers.

Let Edu hoover up some talent from Brazil and be done with it.

100% agree with this. The Arteta project will not peak for another 18-24 months (minimum) so we need to buy younger players who will mature in this period.

It would be a massive waste of fees/wages to buy a finished article who will only perform for 12 months - whilst that single player might be ready, the rest of the team won’t be at the same level.

The plan should be to rebuild with the intention of challenging in a couple seasons time. That needs to be our target.

That was my previous line of thinking as well. A lot really depends on whether we think its plausible that we could salvage this year or not.

I don’t think players like Upamecano or Umtiti are viable in January so its really a question of acquiring a player like Boateng or rolling with what we have. Either way you could sign Upamecano over the summer.

As long as we sign Bruno Guimaraes I’m happy. Reading about him has me HYPED

Glad to see we are all in agreement that quality >>>> quantity.

Numbers wise we are fine. But it’s the quality of those numbers…

I’d be happy with nobody. But any Edu Brazilian madness would be a lovely bonus.

And then have a good coherent plan for targets and improvements based in everybody’s agreement in the summer. I think Upa will come then. Plus a Xhaka upgrade.

Doesn’t Guendouzi already have the profile/attributes to evolve into this?

But they are doing this? Torreira, Guendouzi, Saliba, Tierney, Pepe, Martinelli and the minutes given to Maitland-Niles, Nelson and Willock even though sometimes out of necessity. Bellerin is 24.

Adding two or three more experienced players or stop gaps shouldn’t be detrimental to this process.

Lots of Arsenal fans are very pessimistic about our chances of signing this guy, when faced with such stiff competition.

But soumare a lot more positive about our chances

What this tells me is that either Willock or Xhaka can go, and also it could mean that Ceballos won’t be pursued next summer.
