You’d think so but the Mudryk deal didn’t scare teams away. Same for Hojlund and Nunez.
It’s actually getting progressively worse seeing Ekitike, Sesko and Woltemade all moving for huge money this past summer.

Rather get Barcola tbh
There’s just a lack of elite attacking talent in the game right now and clubs will always pay big money for a guy they view as having that potential.
I do think this Diomande kid looks a lot different than a Mudryk type. People are talking about him more like an Ousmane Dembele-level talent at this age, whether that’s accurate or not time will tell.
Perhaps a boring moneyball-style take, but recent big transfers across the board seem to have a similar (probably lower) % hit rate than cheaper signings. And at least when a cheaper signing busts you haven’t lost as much. Likewise you have the option of selling for a bigger profit if they hit.
So I don’t really see the point in signing anyone for more than, say, £40m. (One off experienced PL- proven players of the calibre of Haaland etc. aside)
The valuations are just ridiculous really - we have Nwaneri, a kid that has a lot more to write home about than a guy I’ve heard about this past week and it would be bonkers for Arsenal to ask for £100M/expect a team to pay that amount for him.
Yes we should be asking 150m, HG tax.
Fuck bundesliga, bundesliga shit
After the last few years of spending across all clubs in Europe. I think it’s clear to say that valuation has no bearing on a player’s chances to be successful at their next club.
Isak, Wirtz, Hazard, Coutinho, Lukaku, Antony, Nunez, Werner, Mudryk, Ugarte, Yoro etc. the list goes on and on…
Whilst Trossard, Gabriel, Timber, Mosquera cost £100m combined.
You think so?
I think in many cases, high valuations do result in added pressure which can influence how well a player does at a club.
Very few players have banged for big money.
Rice, VVD, Ali, Kane (Bayern), Mbappe.
Meanwhile plenty have flopped - mostly at man united. + Hazard, Coutinho and even Neymar at PSG to an extent.
I think even if Wirtz/Isak etc cost £35m or less, their performances won’t change. Sometimes it’s the club, manager, setup…many factors that affect their performance. The fee doesn’t contribute to it imo, its an intangible.
Of the top 15 transfers ever id say the only successes have been:
Mbappe, Rice, Bellingham, Caicedo
I’d put Neymar as being incredible but ultimately disappointing cause of his injury record.
Coutinho, Hazard, Felix, Griezmann, Dembele, Enzo, Grealish (one really good season) are all flops.
Wirtz and Isak it’s too soon to judge but the early signs aren’t positive.
Wait, Ronaldo and Bale aren’t in that list anymore? That’s how you know spending has gone out of control.
Edit:
Ronaldo to Juve is there. I guess he falls in the same category as Neymar. Both did well but ultimately they were signed to win the CL, and they didn’t do that.
Go to the second page and look which badge keeps cropping up ![]()
Fuck they’re even all over the third page with mbuemo, cunha, Casemiro and di Maria. Not all flops but they certainly haven’t hit as many bangers as they should have for what they’ve spent.
Man U have wasted so much money.
Players like Antony, Casimero, Sancho, Maguire, Pogba, Lukaku, Mount, Hojlund, Zirkzee, Martinez, Varane, Yoro, Ugarte, Wan Bissaka, Fred, De Ligt, etc, as well as more than 200m on Sesko, Mbuemo and Cunha in the last window.
There aren’t many worse than them, but Chelsea and spurs come close.
Kayode is a good shout. Can see that being another 50mil hurdle though.
so basically everyone they have bought for the last 5 years ![]()
We genuinely do not need anybody. No need to sell anybody, we can sell in the summer with Champion Tax applied.
