Arsenal transfers 25/26

OUCH

The voting distribution seems to be based more on likelihood rather than actual ability. Ever since the rumours started heating up about Sesko and Gyok’s died down, so did folk’s preferences.

Been on the Sesko train since it departed the station.

And not even because I thought it was the best choice, but because I have a plethora of Star Trek memes ready to go

I was Team Sesko, then indifferent thinking both would be fine neither great, now I’ve settled back on Team Sesko again not so much because I’m convinced by him but because the more I see of Gyokeres outside of highlight reels the more I think he’s a very limited hold up/counter-attacking striker in the PL, like a Mateta level player. I just don’t see the technical level. He struggles to control balls with his first touch, especially when under pressure, he misplaces passes or puts them on the wrong foot all the time, etc. And his utility as a a ā€œHaaland liteā€ who doesn’t contribute much to possession play but is a killer in the box is really limited by his complete lack of aerial ability. I think Rio is basically right to ask what clubs are in his bag if he’s playing against defenders that he can’t bully physically and that are at least as quick as him, which is what he’ll find in the PL.

Just gonna say even Mateta could have added something for us in January given every striker went down. The lack of activity even in the loan department was bizarre.

I don’t agree regarding technical level and I don’t think Sesko is particularly technical also.

Gyƶkeres is more capable on the ball than Sesko IMO, more creative too.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree. IMO, Sesko is way ahead of Gyokeres in terms of technical level. I watch Gyokeres in games against better competition and he struggles to control and use the ball - the number of touches he needs, the passes that are either to the wrong foot or unnecessarily bouncing, etc. Sesko has his own issues but he’s better with these technical fundamentals.

To me neither are going to displace Havertz and own the position this year, for different reasons, so we might as well get the guy who could do it in the future.

The things you’re criticising Gyokeres for are evident in this video and yeah it’s Atletico but this is far from peak Atletico and I’ve seen the same in other games watching him too.

Loose touches, not holding it up particularly well, losing aerial duels for fun. I don’t see a technical level with him that is clear and when it comes to creation, passing and creating for himself in the attacking third he is sorely lacking also.

I don’t see special prospect but rather one of the few young strikers out there in a striker market that is far from great.

And on Havertz his technical level is inconsistent and not really noteworthy either.

That’s actually one if his best match comps :grimacing:
At least from what I’ve seen.

Looks good in those highlights but very underwhelming in every single match comp.

:santi:

We have to hope. And stay strong.

Definitely a few bad touches but I’ve seen enough from him in general to think his technical level is an attribute, especially for a player that size. He needs to learn how to use his frame to hold off defenders and improve his hold up play in these kinds of extremely physical matchups but you’re looking at a player in that video who turned 21 a few months beforehand, its a normal part of the learning curve. Gyokeres is the fully finished version of himself, he’s 27 and has played 30,000 minutes of professional football. He isn’t getting better or improving his ability to control a football.

IMO, Havertz is way better than Gyokeres on a technical level and does a ton of things to help our play that Gyokeres won’t be able to replicate, which is why I don’t see chance Gyokeres coming to Arsenal and replacing him. Just watch the number of great touches he has in a video like this, settling tricky balls, playing one touch, directing aerial wins to teammates, etc. Gyokeres could offer other qualities but Arteta will want the better link up player and technician in a lot of matchups.

Setting aside the technical level what about creation, passing and creating for himself?

All those are concerns and he isn’t better than Gyokeres at them

Gyokeres gets the transition rep but if you watch Leipzig that’s how Sesko generally plays also but when the space is condescend and the marking is far tighter is he able to create for himself like top strikers are supposed to? Isn’t like our set up is a great platform either. These things are being brushed away because he’s young but within a few seasons he’d be at an age where you’re expected to produce, that young thing ain’t gonna cut it in the PL especially for the fee he’s going to be signed for.

He looks like he needs to be spoon fed or shoot from distance.

Thast’s a good video for Havertz but I’ve also seen many a time where his techinal level is inconsistent and lacking, truth be told anyone can have a good comp video. I don’t rate him as a facilitator like that.

Havertz is better than both your boys btw.

Pleeease.

Top of my defender wishlist. He’d be like having a left-sided Timber that’s how highly I rate him.

I want us to sign a proper make a run on the outside full back.

We have no variety every single one just tucks infield.
