Well that’s a red hot take :grinning:

It would be more sensational if an ITK said we were going to sign a GK and LB because we were happy with our striking options. :grinning:

The word major is redundant in that tweet

Is that a real source, or just another idiot ITK?

ā€œExclusive - Arsenal set to play in the Premier League next seasonā€

It’s Simon Collings from Standard.

We all know what’s needed ahead of the summer, so that’s a story that can be broken down a thousand different ways with the associates emojis for added zing.

We now have a new sporting director to add to the mix.

Buckle up, because the ā€˜journalism’ is going to go into hyperdrive from now onwards.

And despite what we actually spend this summer, the ā€œĀ£300m warchestā€ figure will be added to the other incorrect figures for Arteta era transfers and it’ll be ā€œĀ£1bn flopsā€ the moment we go out of the league cup.

Ā£300m likely includes wages too.

Of course. Those of us who understand nuance and context get it.

But fuckwit You Tubers get a lot of attention and change narratives in the fight for clicks.

If we have got a warchest let’s hope it’s not the same one Wenger had.

Despite all the rumours, it’s unlikely we’ll have a net spend of much more than 100m so any talk of more than that is just click bait.

We might be desperate for a striker and LW but it’s going to be difficult to get the top quality players we’ve been linked with, especially Isaak who would take up most of our budget.

Also, we’re not the only club desperate for attacking players, Chelsea and Man U are in the same position as us and so will Liverpool if Salah leave.

A striker and winger like Gyokeres and Lookman would certainly be within our reach so if get them, as well as a GK and some squad fillers to replace the outgoing players, it would be a great window but Isaak for 150m isn’t going to happen.

We have limited fundings… so we cannot just spend the money like some oil clubs did… spend whatever.
Not that we need to spend big, which I believe we can, but we also need to spend smart.
We are not a team that can spend 150m on one player and act like nothing and perform the same way if this player gets a long-term injury. We definitely cannot and do not.
One big transfer affects our long term purchase also.

I strongly agree to get Gyokeres plus a winger than using most/all of our budget on Isak.
Isak maybe the best among all strikers in the market, but sorry, he is not realistic and meant to be a gunner at this point IMO.

Do you factor in Nwaneri here though? I agree with you that 150m on one player is unrealistic. However, the emergence of Nwaneri is equivalent to bringing in a 50m player. Nwaneri also means Vieir*, Sterling, Nelson and possibly Trossard can leave which frees up a lot of wages.

Those 4 leave and that’s 50-60m in the pot. Spend that on a left winger and you have new winger, Martinelli, Saka, Nwaneri for a net spend of nothing. Jesus and Havertz still on the books. Maybe we could splash big on Isak?

I expect there will be a number of players leaving, so it may make us short in number.
In this case, we probably should split the budget into 2-4 players instead of only 1-2.

Makes sense, but we’ve seen that signings of the level of Merino and Calafiori haven’t moved the needle. Four signings of this calibre may pad the squad but not add the winning tough.

Dream world, but it might be better to spend 240m on Isak and Wirtz with a free transfer out-wide and in the 6, than to buy say Zubimendi, Williams, Sesko and 50m creative mid.

I think Leverkusen already said it takes around 150m to get Wirtz?
You are talking about 300m here for 2 players … more than a dream :joy:
