You don’t see it with Gyƶkeres?

Nope and I don’t take goal records of guys in Portugal seriously either.

Look at the top scorers over the last 6-7 years, all junk in other leagues:

Taremi hasn’t scored a single league goal at Inter

Carlos Vinicius couldn’t muster up decent numbers anywhere he went after Portugal

Nunez can’t score consistent numbers

Seferovic never put up good numbers elsewhere.

Just seems like a really low quality league the fact he went from putting up decent numbers in England’s second tier to ripping it up in Portugal tells me a lot

Thing is though it is much more than goals

Much more

Aside from the goals I see the speed, power, really good technical ability, link up play that is tailor made for the premier league

The way he dribbles at his size is quite frankly ridiculous and he has the elite work rate as well, can press excellently and run all day also

I don’t think there is a clone of him in Europe, he is one of one

I see a world class striker in waiting, eye test tells me he will be elite

He’d be a better signing than Isak IMO and better value as well

Players can simply improve, it shouldn’t always be held against them that they went abroad and upped their game

You have to take chances with talents like Gyokeres even if the league they are associated with is weak. There is high likelihood of him turning into a decent high level striker considering he relies a lot on his individual ability.

Newcastle took a chance with Isak who’s goal numbers were 17, 11, & 10 in his last 3 seasons.

The only ā€˜issue’ with Gyokeres for me is age and longevity.

That said, I think we should still get him. He can’t have a worst output than our current lot, there’s just no way.

He’s only 26. Auba was 31 when he won us the FA Cup in 2020. Isak is only a year younger than Gyok. Age is not the main concern witn him at all.

How about some players now ffs?

(Does Zubimendi have his own thread?)

Can he play up top

Zubi, Sesko and Williams?

Based on a hunch I’m guessing those are our number one targets for the positions we need.

Would that represent good business if we get all three?

Two out three

Sesko is two years away from a year away maybe

lol still signing zubimendi would be an immediate admission they got it wrong with merino.

Zubi would be coming to play partey’s role which means rice stays at 8 and merino on the bench.

Ideal, granted I would like someone more creative at 8

No thanks. He’s a Slovenian Andy Carroll.

Absolutely

Third times the charm to replace Xhaka eh

Strap in

Zubimendi is a 6.

A Partey/Jorgi replacement.

Not sure what to think about this.

Seems we are giving up on attackers… :santi:

Let me have my fun

Would it? Ain’t he the one Arteta(and many others wanted) the one he wanted all along.
If anything, bringing his buddy Merino helps things.

Btw, I think this puts to bed the prospect of Jorginho and Partey extending.
I reckon those rumours about Jorginho being chased by Palmeiras and Flamengo this window o are what sparked these news to break out.

There is this as well but I couldn’t be arsed to point that out.

But you think 105m ricey gonna ride the bench or what? If Zubi replaces those two like we’ve said then Rice and Merino are fighting for the other spot really. Of course rotation will happen.

Thats a totally unexpected signing but a great buy. Now get a striker ffs
