I like him a lot and would be happy to bring him in as a rotational option with Saka and Martinelli. A huge plus is that he has played on both left and right.
But he has not played a single game through the middle in his career, per Transfermarkt. Maybe there is some possibility of him moving into the middle eventually but that happens so rarely its not worth planning around. The fact that lightning struck once with Thierry Henry does not make it likely to hit the same spot again.
All that said, we need somebody to rotate with Saka and Martinelli who can offer more threat than our current options. Its either transition Jesus to more wing rotation and buy a striker or make Trossard exclusively a false 9 option rotating with Jesus and Havertz and buy a winger. If Williams is the guy we rate then I can see it as the price will certainly be a lot cheaper than any of the viable striking options bar maybe Sesko.
I just struggle personally seeing a striker option out there that would be worth the outlay and isbat a good age profile.
Osimhen: way too expensive, other potential red flags
Gyokeres: way too expensive
Watkins: way too expensive, not ideal age profile
Toney: could get at a cut price due to contract situation, not ideal age profile
Solanke: could potentially be very expensive, not ideal age profile
Sesko: great price, too raw at the minute, needs plenty of minutes to develop further
Ferguson: way too expensive, needs plenty of minutes to develop further
Gimenez: heâs shite, pass
Zirkzee: could potentially be very expensive
Out of all of them Zirkzee is probably the best choice. He seems ready for the next step. Heâs got a great potential. His price could potentially spike if Bologna get a CL spot, which appears likely.
Yeah, Zirkzee and Gyokeres seem like the best candidates to me but in either case weâre talking about very significant outlays.
I think there will be a lot of interest in Williams, which will mean more wage competition, but that 43m release clause is way below market.
I will say that the club has been looking for the elusive âthird wingerâ for a long time now and I donât see us going into next season with Trossard/Nelson as our options there. I think this problem gets addressed one way or another this summer. We canât keep playing Martinelli and, especially, Saka into the ground to this degree and the schedule is only going to get more demanding with more CL games and hopefully significantly deeper runs in the domestic cups next year.
If our ultimate plan is to spread out the goals to different scorers, we are not that desperate to find a striker, at least no need to find a well developed one, which is expensive.
We have time to develop him and give him about a year or so.
What does this mean these days? In my opinion Arsenal overpaid for White, Rice and Havertz at time. But all three have become, or are becoming, good/great additions to our squad (the injury is still out on Haverts in my book). If this regime thinks either the Sporting guy or Zirkzee can do the job, but have to cost 80 million pound: pull the trigger. Edu and Arteta have proven themselves enough.
With FFP becoming such a big problem the past 12 months, I donât think youâll see us spend money carelessly. We have future debt for some of the moves you mentioned which is bound to limit us eventually.
I also donât think weâre as desperate now either. Core is complete, new contracts have been handed to the key players in the team.
