Sounds like made up rubbish
He is one of the few players that if we were to sign him, I wouldn’t blink if Partey left. Brilliant at what he does.
Him or Valverde if available are absolute must have players.
I took a few hours off the internet expecting to return to a madness. Looks like tomorrow.
Avoid Twitter, there’s a lot of idiots on it. That’s just general advice.
Look how many positions he played in just the oast season.
Falls in the same category as Ben Johnson. Versatile defenders that should come for fairly cheap and can provide extra cover.
Not sure if we end up signing either but it gives a profile of what we may be looking to do next. I’ll be honest though, I thought Timber was gonna be the last addition in defence.
it is pretty close to what I guess… Arteta possibly will push one of the full back to CDM position when attack, that’s why he needs this specific “versatility”…
Given that we are about to announce Rice and Timber, I’ve been thinking whether we will buy any more players this summer. At the end of the season it was rumoured we were looking for 5 new players, so if that’s true we have 2 to go…It feels like we only have one big purchase left given the money we have already spent, with the 5th player likely a cheaper younger prospect. So who’s the 4th? I’ve been thinking about three possible options to strengthen three different areas of the team:
Joao Cancelo (£35-£45m)
We keep being linked with Cancelo, with the reports saying Arteta is keen to bring him to Arsenal, City are open to selling, and the player is open to a move. Signing Cancelo is an interesting one. It would give us a very attacking full back, who could play either at LB or RB. It could spell the end for Tierney, but I think it would be more likely that Zinny would play in central midfield next season, where we are still light.
A midfield 4 of Rice, Partey, Jorginho and Zinchenko looks pretty good to me. We would also have 4 options at LB (Tierney, Cancelo, Tomiyasu, Kiwior) and RB (White, Timber, Cancelo, Tomiyasu). Our defence would have good versatility with plenty of different ways we could set up.
Moises Caicedo (£80m+)
I’m not letting this one go until he signs for another club! Our central midfield still feels light. Partey has two years left on his contract and I can see the clubs wanting to sell to extract as much value as possible from the player. Caicedo makes perfect sense. Absolute destroyer of a No.6 and would allow Rice to play No.8 instead of Havertz, or in a double pivot. This signing would give us real strength and depth and would mean we would have two exceptional young midfielders in the PL that could dominate for years to come.
Moussa Diaby (£50m)
It seems very unlikely that we are going to sign a new striker this summer, so to balance up the options I needed to add an attacking player to the list of options. Diaby fits the player profile we are looking for perfectly. Excellent pace, good finishing and ability to play on either wing. Could easily deputise/provide competition for Saka or play on the left, and easily alternate wings during games. Rumours were that he was very likely to move this summer.
If we did end up making a big 4th signing, this could be our best ever window? Thoughts on the above guys?
I think we still have spending power given that the value of incoming transfers is immortalised over each season and thanks to a lower wage bill (6th in the league) we have more wriggle room with FFP than the headline transfer figures quoted in the press suggest.
For me, what happens next is contingent on whether we keep three of our players; Tierney, Partey and Balogun. As it turns out, your 3 suggestions fit rather well so I do think that Arteta’s back-ups list will include players of the profile you’ve suggested, possibly even the exact players you’ve suggested.
If we keep all three of the above though, I’d be happy for us to spend a little money on the next generation of Arteta-ballers and get Odegaard on a good contract instead. If any go, then I like who you’re suggesting.
That’ll surely be a problem in the long run though
It would be if we were planning on having similar spending sprees every summer but this is very much a rebuild which will be followed by quieter transfer windows once Arteta has the squad he’s asked for.
It will also be an issue if we carry on spending like this in January but fail to qualify for the ECL next season. Like what happened to those jokers at Stamford Bridge.
Charles Watts on why he left goal:
So towards the end of last season when I was told my job was going to change and I was going to have to start spending some of my time reporting on Chelsea and Tottenham, I knew that I needed to push myself to go down another path.
There was no simply no way that I was going to have the passion or the motivation to spend my time writing about football clubs that I had no connection to and quite frankly, that I disliked.
It’s always been about Arsenal for me.
This link just won’t go away it’s reported we are going back with 86£ (100€) for him
That’s a good thing though, isn’t it?
Of course it would one of those signings that is a statement of intent
Don’t fuck with me Dobbo, not you.
Do we need him though?
Make it so…
