Martinez would have been slaughtered here on OA at times defensively. Can you imagine the responses had Zinchenko or Gabriel been battered 7-0 at Anfield while getting bodied and dunked on.
Don’t get me wrong I think Martinez is a good player, versatile and interesting but his height is always going to be a liability in this league.
I’m honestly happier with Zinchenko for half the cost, we have White, Tomiyasu and now Kiwior who can fulfil the full back/CB hybrid role so I don’t really lament losing out on him at all.
I mean the idea behind Martinez at Arsenal was that he occupied the same role Zinchenko currently plays. They’re the same height so I don’t think that would be an issue especially if nobody seems to care about Zinchenko being 5’9.
Martinez is a good defender, good on the ball and just all round a good reliable player. I’m happy we got Zinchenko so you won’t find me complaining but I do think
I’ve mentioned this before too. For the longest time I would’ve taken Lisandro over Zinchenko, it was deeper into the season that Zinchenko converted me, for which mind you, his great passion for the club helped.
I am interested in what Kiwior can do at LB/LCB.
He offers what Lisandro did and then you add his height and pace, could turn out a massive player for us.
In hindsight, for the price of Lisandro we got Kiwior and Zinchenko, you won’t find me complaining about it now.
