Arsenal transfers 25/26

is this the danilo that we were linked to a few years back?

Love the look of Danilo but he doesn’t seem like a player you’re going to buy and throw immediately into the deep end in the PL. Great long term heir to Partey and help around the edges in the short term and maybe that’s the most important thing.

We could probably do with some players to throw into the shallow end of the EL too tbf

Yeah, it could mean Sambi filling in at DM in the PL until Partey or Elneny returns and Danilo playing DM in the Europa League until he gets up to speed.

I don’t think Sambi at DM is that bad of a scenario for a few PL games as long as the rest of the team around him is relatively healthy and functional.

Quick 2 min Youtube scouting trip…meh

Same position. Different Dan.

It’s a little weird that given the injuries in midfield and how badly we need someone that the Tielemans rumors are basically dead.

Were we ever really in for him?

Iddrissa Gueye. Get in touch with his agent now Mr. Gaspar.

This is the issue when it’s super late in the window and everyone knows we’re scrambling. Selling clubs can’t find replacements and will demand extortionate fees to make the sale worth their while.

The fact this is coming down to the last days of the window is a farce tbh

It was always more likely than not that he would not hold up for the season, why we’re now scrambling when the whole world knew we needed more quality blood at CM is a joke

Hope it ends well but its foolishness to be in this position

Waiting until the end of the window and then scrambling around for players we should have bought at the start of the window, is the Arsenal way. :grinning:

That’s why the Tielemans thing is a little baffling to me.

Let’s speculate wildly for a minute. We’ve been told that personal terms are not and have never been an issue with the player. We’ve also been told the club sounded him out and he was interested in the move. So we box clever by not making a bid because we know Leicester is somewhat over a barrel in terms of his contract running out. It looks super clever given how poorly Leicester started the season and how well we’ve started the season. But…

Now Leicester just pocketed 70m from Chelsea for Fofana and can presumably make at least one signing.

On top of that they know that suddenly we’re in desperate need of not just midfield cover minutes but midfield play-90-minutes-twice-a-week-minutes and that 35m fee isn’t coming down one penny.

Poor from the club to let this midfield situation come to this point. It should be criticised and if it’s left unresolved past the deadline, heavily.

The only saving grace is that they still have these final few days to sort this shit out. Why it took these players to go down for this to even become a conversation is a problem.

Just hoping this is a blessing in disguise and forces serious investment or a loan for a top holding midfielder to compete with Partey. I think we can forget about the 8 at this stage.

I think its possible we sounded Tielemans out, laid a lot of groundwork last winter and spring, and then a variety of things led our plans to change this summer.

We signed Vieira, who can play as a creative 8 in the Xhaka role, right where Tielemans would play and offering some of the same things.

We ended up missing out on Martinez and signing Zinchenko instead, and he can also do a lot of the things that Tielemans can do if played in midfield.

The Partey situation happened out of the blue, which may have led us to think that if we’re going to buy a midfielder this summer or in January, it should be somebody who can play DM if Partey becomes…unavailable. Tielemans is a different profile.

I’m really not convinced that we have wanted Tielemans all along and its a just a standoff over the price that would get resolved in the last days of the window. Leicester wants to sell him, surely they would have just engaged us and negotiated like they ultimately did with Fofana.

The thing for me is nothing’s changed. Before the season started the squad was so thin we needed about 5-6 first team additions. We have made 3. Man City boys made a quick and significant impact but we always needed more.

Saving grace is the window is still open.

I think that’s a very charitable way of looking at things. He is an excellent player when healthy but he has missed a pretty unacceptable amount of time if you’re trying to build around a player.

Oh I agree, I was talking about him being arrested.

This guy is throwing some cold water on the idea of getting Danilo. It appears that Palmeiras doesn’t want to sell right now. I wonder whether buying him when he comes available has always been our plan in a future window and now we’re in a pickle.

Didn’t Liverpool pull the Keita signing forward by a window? Not saying it’s simple but if we’re nine points back of fourth place in January it’s not gonna look clever.

Not doing the most common sense thing and paying for it in the end has been a major glaring flaw in Edu and Arteta’s management. Fans want Xhaka replaced for being a red card magnate, Arteta makes him a fixture in the team. The fans want reinforcements, Edu and Mikel punt until summer. It feels like each time we know exactly what we need but the guys in charge think they know better and end up failing by a nose hair.

If we don’t fix this midfield crisis and get another backup on the wing now we’re going to have another ALMOST successful season.
