Arsenal transfers 25/26

Fair enough, we’d have to agree to disagree on the Spurs drop of compared to ours if we lost one or two of our best players.

I’d expect Spence to start at Right back.

Don’t think can be even argued. Spurs had multiple games where they didn’t register a single shot on goal. We’re talking about a heavy Son/Kane carryjob here.

An big injury to Kane or Son also destabilises Conte who isn’t afraid to throw a tantrum if shit isn’t going well.

Not if you can trust anything Conte says, (which admittedly doesn’t count for a lot :joy: )
From what he’s said he very much views Spence as an investment for the future, which the club wanted to make and he had nothing to do with. He thinks he’s got a long way to go to get to first team level

I’m going to hold off commenting on the quality of our transfer window until it closes.
It’s pretty obvious they’re not done, whether that results in further players we shall see.

I think it’s easy to forget that (unlike over the last 10 years or so) we have a lot of good quality youngsters who are already nailing first team spots and they will be better than last season and we’ve got cover for Tierney, Odegaard and a quality pressing forward replacing Lacazette. We’re already much better.

I don’t think it’s a sin to call our window adequate or average so far tbh, there is still a huge gaping hole in midfield even if Partey is able to stay fit and available for selection. Really we need two CM’s but obviously we won’t get more than one.

Jesus is a good signing and looks on form in pre season so credit for that but it was necessary after reducing our striker pool to zero. Nketiah re-signing still isn’t a positive for me so not gonna include that.

Zinchenko was a smart move. Vieira yet to be seen but hopeful.

Three seemingly astute signings but it’s all no good if we end up with Elneny or Lokonga playing decent minutes in midfield. Xhaka is bad enough so until we address the CM position then the window is just ‘fine’ and almost done the bare minimum imo.

I find the assessment of “Fine” remarkable. What short memories Gooners have. Perhaps some of you weren’t old enough to appreciate how shit Wenger was with transfers post-2007.

Going on the business we’ve done so far by your standards I would estimate we’ve not had a “Good” transfer window since the summer of Petit and Overmars as that’s the last time we signed 2 established top tier players in one window who everyone knew about and was excited about.

Many of the players that turned into huge stars for us were greeted with Jesus levels of ambivalence or even rage at our lack of ambition when they joined. Bergkamp and Henry were “cast offs” and a “gamble” when they signed for Arsenal.

I tell you, if we get Gakpo and Tielemans there will still be people moaning about the lack of ambition at Arsenal. Jeez

I want to see what ASL has got at the 8 spot

Last summer was good, don’t need to try and go back 20 years and exactly what we always did under Wenger (leave 1 or 2 key players short) is what I’m worried we’re doing this season.

As I said the 3 signings themselves are good and astute moves but if the squad gets left with a huge hole then what’s the point? We’ll do great when everyone is fit (similar to last year) but fail as soon as we get an injury or two, which we have many players prone to.

Nobody is asking to be Man City with 2 players in every position but at least if we get a Partey injury yet again then our new shiny CM being partnered with Xhaka or Elneny is less of a blow than seeing both of the latter two together.

He’s got to step up this season if he’s sticking around, I’d potentially have loaned him given we would hope for one more top quality CM coming in and being ahead of him in the pecking order.

I’ve liked some of the play he’s shown and maybe that’s what Arsenal are banking on but I do think we’ll see a CM come in and turn it into a good window by the end.

I think your glass is half full. Lets see how fine the signing are so far once we’ve got a few games under our belt and window closes. It’s a bit lame to say it but if we’d signed Saliba this summer for less than £30m fans would be dancing in the streets.

I agree there are questions over midfield but we don’t know all the details.

It really does feel like some people have remarkably high expectations while supporting a team that’s not won the title for 18 years. I was there for the rebuild in the late 80s, this feels the same, so have some faith.

And equally I think people are easily pleased because we’ve been so bad for so long.

Nothing wrong with having remarkably high expectations although it often leads to significant disappointment. I sure as hell don’t want that 18 year drought to be 38 years by the time I’m in my mid 50s though and am aware of the sort of quality it’ll take to win this league.

Yeah 19 years is a new low for anyone on the forum .

Arsenal last won the league about 4 months before I joined this forum. I’ve been here for that long and we’ve never come close since lol

Longest we’ve been without a title since winning it in the 1930s, right?

Least we won some trophies, I started just around the start of the trophy drought (2006) until 2014. That blew.
