Arsenal transfers 25/26

I personally think January was sacrificed because the club had specific targets and what/who they wanted they couldn’t get in January and rather than just fill gaps with players they didn’t really want they chose to plan for the summer. Had we signed random players, maybe we would have hit top 4 with a plaster or two but then could easily be in a place where we had even more deadwood to offload this summer or restricted the number of new signings. I don’t know what went on but it definitely feels to me like there is a specific plan in the works at the club for the first time in many many years.

I don’t know if a lot of supporters thought their squad was inferior to ours, but personally I thought they were underperforming with what they had. The signing of Kulusevski (spelling) was also a game changer and for me is more the reason that Spuds eeked into top 4 than Conte

I wonder who it is…

I agree that the signing of Kulusevski was one of the reasons they beat us to fourth place but that’s because Conte identified a weakness in the team and bought a player to strengthen it.

This is why I think it’s wrong for some to suggest they’ve had a poor window.

We might have had a decent window, although I’m not sure it has been significantly better than theirs.
But they have a better manager and more of a goal threat so are more likely to finish above us again.

Their window hasn’t been poor. It’s just not exciting, especially after the 150m capital increase that got a lot of Spurs fans hyped up.

I think when we had a poll about it most people gave it a 3. Personally, I think they could have gone for better players, they do however deserve credit for sorting things out early on.

Didnt they pay £100m of that back to shareholders recently?

That is one the best examples of very absurdity of the transfer season. Between 16-35? Quite the connections this muppet has to tweet out such inside info.

Its a joke mate :grinning:

Well said mate, well said.

We are where we are, because we fucked up the transfer window last season.
Either too arrogant, or wrong planning.

Do we really think getting another extra player or two (loan or purchase) will affect our budget this season? Absolutely not, unless you are talking about 100m player spending.

Why the fuck we had to get rid of our own players that quick that cheap, when top 4 was still in sight.
Not adding additional player was one thing, we were shorthanded after January was another.

That’s subjective.

Whether it’s funny or not is subjective.

Here’s one guys, was it worth not investing in a striker in Jan and possibly costing ourselves top 4, in order to land Jesus in July?

Reluctantly, I’d steer towards Yes.

No because we could of tried for a loan striker at least.

That’s true, but which quality strikers are available for a January loan?

@JakeyBoy some quality posts by you lately, glad you’re more active again :slightly_smiling_face:

The fact is though two parts of the attack just didn’t score goals.
Lacca and Martinelli just left us with Saka as a contributing forward.
Luka Jovic was touted at the time. Can’t really have done any worse.
Also the complete phasing out of Pepe was an oversight in some ways.
It was a gamble that backfired. That’s fair enough but it was a golden opportunity spurned for me.

Mate, you’re preaching to the converted! We definitely needed firepower after Auba left in Jan.

In summary, I’m not happy with how our striker hunt started in Jan, but happy with how it has ended in June.

Would have happily taken Jovuc on loan ; I’d have been less happy spending 70m on Isak.

Exactly my thoughts. Our recruitment last season showed we are looking at young and hungry players, even if they’re aren’t proven at the highest level. Eduteta are building for the future, and they clearly think there is long term success to be had, even if it means forgoing any short term gains. We probably could have brought in a couple of players on loan in January to help our CL push but they either didn’t fancy that or didn’t identify any such targets, perhaps some inexperience on their part.

In the end, our lack of business in January wasn’t the reason we fumbled our CL push. We just choked right when it mattered and that’s on Mikel and the players.

Yes and no, due to our lack of activity in January and some key injuries it left us fielding some decidedly average looking lineups.

I think it was a combination of bottling it and lack of talent.
