Arsenal Kits and Merch

“Fashion house” fucking kill me please

Terms like fashion house and franchise player are horrible

Don’t worry, that report is tapping into the marketing and merchandising worlds. They’re full of bullshit, just like many other business sectors. A bit of self-congratulatory back-slapping like referring to a football club as a “fashion house” is just a desperate attempt to assure themselves that they remain relevant.

Does our club and adidas have an aggressive merchandising side that makes the club and the kit manufacturer lots of money? Of course it does, but no more than any of the other big clubs in Europe and North America. No one is putting a gun to anyone’s head to buy merch but at the same time we can’t get excited about the club’s excellent financials without acknowledging that merch does contribute to the club’s success and (a phrase I fucking hate) “Brand reach”.

And the timing is superb. I was just reading an article about Man City’s AI-designed third kit for next season, a direct threat to those in this industry. Every industry will spend the next couple of years trying to integrate AI into their operating structure before realising it’s actually never going to be as reliable or have the mental dexterity of humans and is therefore not cost effective. The clamour for relevancy starts here.

The business circle of life. New fad, everyone jumps on-board chasing profit, turns out to be a disappointment or someone gets sued for millions, so on we go to the next fad.

They ain’t about to stop yet.

I’ve seen a Bergkamp line that’s being dropped (signed up for it obvs) and there’s some shit all over the socials with Saka, Henry and å few others…..Bastards :joy:

Yep, it isn’t going to change, this is the modern world, if you ain’t getting into debt buying shit that’s not essential then you’re not contributing to the economy. And big businesses don’t waste their time on activities that don’t make a profit.

I am partly to blame, but if we all stopped buying merch the club and their partners would soon find other ways of profiting from us.

And with comedic timing, a parcel from adidas turned up when I’d finished typing that.

Damn, I’ve been doing it wrong the whole time.

Sorry guys, I haven’t been contributing.

FFS, imagine how successful we would have been if only you’d spent your money on merch instead of food, heating and all those other luxuries the rest of us can only dream about.

On the plus side, you’ve not got a box full of Puma kits that are now worth less than a fiver each.

I hope that’s real. It’s lovely.

Meh, Adidas can do one tbh. Thought they weren’t running with those fat stripes either?

I dont hate it but its not for me.

Only one I will get is navy one

Thats fckn grim - not getting that !?

Merch drop….. Who comes up with this shit

Arsenal x Places + Faces

That top looks like some sort of bootleg mashup of home and away Ajax shirts from the 90s.

Pros: Raglan sleeves, no Rwanda anywhere, it doesn’t have too much blue or white on it, possibility that it could yet have the cannon on it. Footyheadlines aren’t sure. New material, hated this years heat-ready material, sweaty as fuck.

Cons: Oh FFS lightning bolts again? Fat stripes make it look like a very bad fake, though they’ve clearly toned it down a bit from the ridiculously wide stripes on the world cup kits. No white collar. Tsk.

The Arsenal x Places = Utterly shit. This must be some practical joke from marketing to see how many mugs buy it.

@Bavin They’re on Home kits this year (hopefully for the last time), I’ve seen a mixture on third kits, some have wide stripes, some don’t, but the trefoil away kits will have normal stripes next season.

Sometimes you’re too kind, Jakey.
