Alexander Isak

This is just who Jesus is, he’s been declining as a goal scorer with each passing season since arriving at City, every season his goal per minute ratio has dropped

Isak has more upside in terms of goal scoring.

Very possibly as he’s younger. It just seems that he’s such a ball player that there’s an equal chance he never develops that strikers knack

I don’t want to be misconstrued, Jesus and Isak are brilliant players and I would be happy with Isak here as he’s one of the league’s best.

I would just rather a very different option to Jesus.

I’ve long said he’s a poor finisher and was waiting for that to show at Newcastle too but the dude has been insanely clinical for them.

It’s been almost two years and he hasn’t shown any weakness in that area. Have to concede that he simply figured that aspect of his game out.

I thought Arteta might go for him when he went to Newcastle because he fitted the profile of striker we needed but perhaps he was too young.

Since his injury, Isaac has really hit some good form so perhaps we can tempt him to come here and Newcastle might take Ramsdale, ESR and Nelson in return. :grinning:

He still wouldn’t be my pick, mind you. Clinical as he’s become, he’s almost a non-entity besides the goals.

There’s also the fact that Newcastle are a counter attacking aside. As impressive as some of his goals are, most have come from counters.

He isn’t unfamiliar with possession based teams of course, Sociedad was one. But I don’t think he’s cone across low blocks like we have every week.

To excel here he’d have to step it up out of possession and put that height of his to use.

I’d prefer Watkins, although Isaac has a lot more potential, but it’s unlikely we’ll get either.

Long-term, I like Ferguson a lot but he isn’t ready yet.

I would trust Arteta to improve whatever issues he might have. He has the raw material and seems to have made that step up in ability/production that some of the greats make mid career ( think Henry, Drogba etc ).

We desperately need a striker and having a counter attacking option is not a bad thing to have when we are playing good teams that can pin us back.

While there are games or moreso periods where that happens, majority of the time we play against teams with 11 players parked in their half of the pitch.

yeah it’s the Sociedad style I would focus on with him as a player here. One good thing is that he was jammin with Ödegård quite well for a bit there. But yeah I would pick another striker if we’re getting one, he does’t play much like what we want from a striker.

Honestly, I think his best use, if he were to come here, would be on the left.

If he was available for cheap (around what Newcastle paid, unless his valuation has gone up massively) and our first buys were off the table, then we should definitely bring him here. Think he’s clever and will adapt after a few months like Havertz. And at this point, he is 5x the player Nketiah will ever be, so let’s keep the door open on him.

Nice.

But I just do not follow this type of reporting unless the Newcastle owners are gaining something from us too?

Partey, Jesus, Eddie, ESR or Nelson?

By selling possible players to some team in Saudi, are we in a roundabout way actually just paying MBS anyway?

Just seems weird.

Aren’t Newcastle having some issues with FFP? That was my impression as to the context behind us going after Isak (it’s not the first link we have had to him recently).

It appears so and if that is the case then essentially everyone is is dispensable in their squad but surely the likes of Isak and Bruno are the last names they look to sell if they need to balance stuff appropriately ?

Gordon and Almiron could fetch a tidy sum from another PL mid-tabler for example.

We should do a swap.
Newcastle give us Isak and Guimaraes and we give them Nketiah, ESR, Nelson and Tierney, which means they keep within the FFP rules. :grinning:

Big fan of Isak. I am concerned by his injury record though.

Five or six years ago you’d think that was the case but post-COVID and with the PL suddenly deciding to take a harsh stance on financials to stave off an independent regulator would a team like Palace shell out money for a guy like Almiron?

If they lose an Olise or an Eze, fer sher.
