Albert Sambi-Lokonga

If we can get close to what we gave for him I would be over the moon. Shocking transfer. Im gonna blame it all on that big headed fraud Vincent Kompany who did the recommendation.

Kompany might be able to get some value back into him so we can sell him.

This might be the move going forward, for both him and us.

Let’s be honest, the Palace move didn’t work out at all. He was signed by Vieira, but Vieira was pretty muc gone within a month, and from there on he clearly wasn’t Roy’s cup of tea.

Kompany is the one who pitched hin to Arsenal and City. He should know best how to utilize him. And you would think Kompany should be safe till Christmas unless it goes really bad in the PL.

He has a chance to revive his career here and hopefully raise his worth again so we can move him on for some profit at least.

Such a bum. Had pretty high hopes for him too. Kompany owes us big time.

Loan with obligation to buy if Burnley stay up seems very possible…as you say Kompany owes us!

Should be paying them to get this guy out the door for another year.

Loan fee :joy:

What a terrible signing this was

I don’t think you can say it was a terrible transfer. We didn’t spend that much on him and sometimes you have to gamble on young players. It didn’t pay off on this occasion but we should be able to recoup most of the fee.

I always want the club to take low risk gambles on young talents like this. Im just shocked how Kompany can call him the next Yaya Toure with a straight face.

Next Yaya Sanogo

Well he’s been shit and we’ll likely make a loss on him, so with the benefit of hindsight, I reckon you can.

It’s the kind of risk that is worth taking on a youngster, and I expect we’ll rightly make similar moves in future, but despite that I think you can call it terrible when the player totally flops, including during their loan spell further down the table, and gets sold at a loss.

Personally I wouldn’t call taking a punt on a young player at that price a terrible transfer for the reasons you say, but we all have different points of view. Hopefully he goes on and can have a good career elsewhere.

£17.2 million,

add another 10 million, probably get Sergej Milinković-Savić

Now yes and with the offer of CL football but not back then when we sihned Sambi.

The main reason I gave was him performing badly at two clubs, I’m surprised that performances wouldn’t be a good enough reason, I’d consider it to be the most important factor when assessing how good a transfer is.

The second reason I gave was us likely making a loss. After performances, I’d say that’s also a fairly important factor.

Performances, bad. Financially, not good either. Struggling to see anything positive at all, so terrible doesn’t seem objectionable to me.

I think this is a question of semantics, that you think “terrible” sounds a bit harsh, not that you disagree its worked out pretty badly.

I agree that the idea behind the signing was good, and I would be fine with us making signings like this in future, but thay wouldn’t stop me from assessing this attempt as being pretty terrible in the end. I’d expect us to execute the strategy better next time.

Semantics may be the right word. I agree with what you’ve said but from my perspective when it comes to younger players there is always a big risk. You only have to look at youth academies to see that only a small proportion make it. With that I guess I am more accepting that we may lose some money along the way when taking a punt like this but if it works out you can potentially sign the next best thing.
