AFTV

Yeah ok @Stroller seems this all played a part in his downfall.

Then again with mental issues, if it wasn’t this then something else may have triggered it.

Yeah some people are really fucking cunts. They forget that these people are just normal people with feelings and emotions, they take it beyond banter and personally attack these people. It’s actually really sad and another reason why something has to be done about trolling and the anonymity social media sites afford people.

Deleted his account now.

Ah man, that’s so sad. It’s so easy for people to hide behind a screen on the internet. Not surprised he deleted his account, he was probably receiving abuse (which isn’t right either).

Obviously we don’t know the details with Claude, but it does sadly seem that mental health played a part, and he may have taken his own life. Such a shame. I wasn’t a fan of the whole Arsenal Fan TV thing, but he always seemed decent enough.

Honestly never thought he was cut out for the role on a set up like that.
Think he was just a regular guy but without the articulation needed for that set up.
It’s a bit sad all round because in this sort of incarnation your only going too get parodied in a certain way. He really didn’t belong in it for me.
There basically just web caricatures this lot and play to an image. Im not sure he completely understood that.

Man, that is sad :pensive: Who could forget his spat with Ty in the early days of the channel. Swansea away I think?

The sad thing is it’s been clear for years now that his mental health wasn’t the best, yet people still kept going at him or putting him out there for ridicule.

Thing is for him he didn’t really have anything else in his life, he said a few times that he was depressed and had mental issues before getting on AFTV which seems to have helped him. Guy basically just lived Arsenal football club and most of his contacts and friends were from that platform.

What I’m going to say is unpopular but I don’t think they should of ever sacked him from AFTV for supposedly making a “racial” slur, I’ve been called a lot worse than “DVD” in my life that I wouldn’t even consider racist. Everyone can see that Claude was clearly not a racist and despite publicly apologising numerous times, it wasn’t enough for the outrage mob until they completely destroyed his life. This guy was mobbed and attacked in an unrelenting and cruel way. And instead of sticking up for their mate, his friends from AFTV abandoned him for the $$$ which I think would of had a major impact on his already fragile mental health. Really sad story at the end of the day.

But in a case like this, what could have been done? No doubt that was not a nice tweet to send, but it was “just” someone saying your analysis is poor and your YouTube channel is shit to someone who has gained fame by giving their views about Arsenal. There’s no illegal offence there, if you want to put content out there on the Internet you have to be able to handle people giving you negative feedback on it. It’s not like this prat on twitter was sending him death threats or doing anything illegal, so I’m not sure what we could put in place to stop this from happening?

I just don’t think the guy has said anything particularly outlandish. Suffering from mental health problems means that Claude needed to step away from the limelight not open himself up to the criticism and vitriol that comes with being a pretty awful “pundit” / personality that some of these people are.

Claude’s case is sad because he was clearly lost without the fame and attention he got from AFTV but he also clearly wasn’t setup to handle everything else that comes with it.

Yeah I didn’t mean just this instance (my bad for not being clearer) but there are probably hundreds of fake accounts with variations of his name or something he said with a funny picture of him that have just been relentlessly making memes and trolling him. That goes for the others as well, TY, DT et all Robbie probably has thousands and I’m sure there are other people on Twitter, YouTube, FB and other social media platforms who go through the same.

Making people who want to post sign up with a valid ID would probably be the only way to stop the trolling and purge these platforms of the millions of fake accounts.

Ah fair play mate, I get ya now, wasn’t trying to be difficult or anything. As a general point I agree with you, it does feel like something more needs to be done.

People from East Asia get called things like DVD because people of a similar ethnicity or nationality have a negative reputation in this country for selling bootleg DVDs. The only reason he threw this at Son was because of his ethnicity. It seems pretty cut and dry to me.

But I bet that everyone else in the room associated with Aftv were perfectly comfortable with him saying this and only ditched him because it seemed expedient to do so, not because they had a moral objections. Which does seem quite cowardly to me.

It’s not my place to decide, but it seems more to me like something he said out of unthinking ignorance, rather than it being something that came from a place of malice or genuine bigotry. Not that I know either way, I don’t watch aftv much and even if I had watched every video ever I don’t think it would mean I’d know if he harboured genuine prejudice towards people of that ethnicity. He may well not be a racist but the thing that he said was.

Anyway, the man has just died.and that is tragic, so I’m not saying this to slander his name.and brand him anything in the wake of his death. Just not sure I really entirely agreed with what you said in the quoted bit above and some of what followed it.

Really sad news.

RIP Claude

Rest In Peace lad.

As someone who was personally impacted by a suicide last year, at least he’s gone out on his own terms.

Wow so sad, I stopped watching AFTV ages ago way before they started to have a presence on social media but from what I remember Claude was a gooner through and through and wanted what’s best for the club like most of us do.

It’s a shame his life has ended the way it has especially since social media most likely contributed here, I can’t fathom what it would take to feel such utter despair that you feel that’s the only way but he must have been hurting so much, I hope he’s at peace.

RIP

Yeah my bad for not making my point clearer. No one is free from criticism, and shouldn’t be either especially if their going to go on a public space and give their opinion on things. But abuse should never be acceptable and I think we all agree more really has to be done to prevent the mass amount of abuse people receive.

It’s crazy to think that we’re now entering an age where anyone can take anyone else’s photos, create nudes or “X-rays” from them, even create deep fake videos. There are places like 4Chan were weirdos and creeps take someone’s social media details, and ask for others to create nudes, find nudes or get personal information. Like WTF? Why is this even a thing. It could be argued that if you don’t want that kind of thing to happen then you shouldn’t go online but can anyone really not be online in an age where business, work and livelihoods are tied to the internet?

Really fucked up.

I am not surprised at this news to be honest.

As much as I would like to proportionate blame on people who went out of their way to troll him, Claude had issue quite early into his AFTV fame. I remember there being a massive hunt to find him when he posted about his suicidal tendencies few years ago.

Even after he came back, It didn’t seem like he sorted things out and never looked like he did when I occasionally stumbled upon his videos. The misery was right there on his face.

It was a matter of when with him. AFTV was probably the only thing that kept him around for this long. Once he got banned from there, perhaps he didn’t receive same validations from his own channel.

There is a lesson for us perhaps here.
I hope I don’t have regrets that would weigh me down like that in my 50s & 60s.

It’s amazing how many tributes he’s getting from rival fan forums/online channels.

Truly a well-liked fella.

Very sad.
