Aaron Ramsdale

Big reason(s) including Ode, Saka, Saliba, Jesus, Tross, Partey, Martinelli, Gabriel, Zinny (not in order)…

So??

Nah, I don’t buy that.

Yes he’s a big reason, however, you pick the team you most believe in, a serious team should be above that kind of sentiment.

Either he’s the guy or he’s not

I think writing his obituary at this point is premature. He’ll play some big games for us this season I think.

He is going to play in FA Cup and League Cup

Hope he’s ready for his 2 games per season.

Does YouTube embeds work well on OA? Just watched this ‘argument’.

I’m with Carragher and Henry all the way on this one. Do what is required to win.

If it works out or not, it lies with Arteta at the end of the day.

One of Arsene’s problems was he took far too long to replace players or drop players because of feelings and sentiments towards them. This has clearly been inherited by Arsenal fans and still impacts them today.

At the end of the day, we are a football club. And this is exactly how you operate. You don’t operate “oh he did this and that last year so he deserves to play in CL.” If there is a better player out there, the past doesn’t matter, present does.

Ramsdale was signed for phase 1/2, he got us into top 4 through his key contribution, and now Arteta who sees these players more than we do, realises we need a keeper who can take us to phase 2/3, challenge/win the title and Raya may well be the man.

Ramsdale is a positive and competitive bloke; he will hopefully can better, he had it easy when Leno was gone.

No different than Tierney or ESR really.

Catching City in PL and winning CL are really hard gosls to achieve. We’ve got to be ruthless in improving the side every way possible. Also, how do get players like Saka and Saliba to keep committing for the long term unless you show them that you’re just as determined to win as they are?

I really didn’t get the whole “he deserves to play for helping us get here” narrative.

Well, Xhaka helped us. He’s gone now and the club wasn’t willing to stand in his way and according to reports wasn’t gonna take the extension option either.
Tierney helped us in previous years. Even the likes of Leno, Holding, Ceballos, Laca, Pepe, Auba and others were key for us at various points and the club just didn’t rest on their laurels.

Is it cutthroat? Probably, but that’s sports at the highest level.

Arteta thought Raya was the best choice for the last two games and he went for him. Do we want our coach to not do that because of sentimentality?
What does that say to the rest of the group. We want to promote competition in the team across every position, this is how it’s done.

Ramsdale is a top lad and he’ll take this head on, just like he did when he came in 2021 when he wasn’t supposed to replace Leno immediately, yet he did.

I think there is a lot of underestimation of Ramsdale going on here. He’s had a lot of adversity in his career and a lot of being told he’s not good enough and in the face of that ended up number one for Arsenal and pushing for the same position with England.

He’s not going to just sulk in a corner because Raya got picked.

He won’t sulk but let’s be serious, Cana wanted Raya here, he got Raya here and that’s probably the end of it.

He may not sulk but this may be a challenge that he can’t overcome

I think the odds are really stacked against him with regard to being the long term #1 at the club, there will come a point where he questions his future and it may not take a really long time.

Because despite what Arteta is saying to the media the conversations and vibes behind closed doors may be something different altogether

Isn’t he the guy that wanted Runarsson here?

Arteta will pick whoever he thinks has the edge. I don’t think this is done yet.

If Rammers plays a bit part role between now at Christmas, then I think he’s in real jeopardy here. Unless Raya gets a Cech-esque injury or tears an ACL etc, he’ll likely start in most competitive games.

However, it’s too early to tell. I have no idea how Arteta thinks, but he’s definitely different to most coaches with how he approaches things.

If it’s for the betterment of Arsenal F.C., then I’m for it.

He got him here, didn’t he? It was only because Runarsson is a complete joke that we wound up going back into the market and iirc we were linked with Raya that summer.

He was a clear punt, they paid under £2m

Raya is a different proposition

And it was still somehow too much!

His recommendations aren’t ironclad then because Runarsson barely got a chance to touch the ground. As I said, I think Arteta will go with whoever he thinks has the edge.

A punt and well established player are two enitrely different things tbh

Arteta clearly trusts his judgement regardless, I know people have a soft spot for Ramsdale but he should definitely be worried and IMO there’s little doubt that deep down he isn’t happy with the club bringing in Raya

True because basically the word was as soon as he’d been in a few training sessions that Arteta knew he was fucking awful.
