Aaron Ramsdale

The outburst primarily is because he is English.

I get all of that, but the idea that this is settled and over within a month of Raya signing I just don’t buy.

Maybe it will pan out that Raya stays first choice all season, but there’s no way that’s certain now in my opinion.

I told you all that Ramsdale was getting way way too cocky and playing to the cameras. His distribution was terrible.
Don’t get me wrong, Ramsdale is a good keeper but his ā€˜ arrogance’ has seen him in second place now .
Raya looked confident, silent and oozed an calming presence . I’m glad Arteta is choosing !

I’m happy for us to play whichever goalie is returning the best stats.
I didn’t want David Seaman to take over from John Lukic who was another favourite with the fans, but big Dave became a reliable, important part of the team as we transitioned into being one of the best clubs in the world.

As lovely a bloke as Aaron is, I’m sure he didn’t feel bad when he replaced Leno.

To think we’ve gone from Szczesny → Cech → Leno → Ramsdale → Raya.

None of these GKs are bad by any means, I think we stuck with Cech too long, and didn’t give Martinez enough game time. But ultimately, I’m glad with where we’ve ended up.

John ā€˜Prick’ Terry said that having a world class GK is equivalent to 15-points in the league, I agree with him. Though I don’t think we ever got that with Cech, unfortunately.

Here’s hoping Raya & Rammers can push each other to be better and hopefully it leads to the betterment of AFC.

Well, it also depends what kind of defenders you have in front of the keeper.

We also had World Cup winner Martinez. :grinning:

It’s better to be in the situation where we’re upset a player is being dropped rather than calling for them to be. It’s generally a sign we’re doing well. Gutted for Ramsdale if this is the beginning of the end for him here.

The subbing keepers thing is interesting. If you had two really different keepers I could see it. Like if you had a nimble distributor who was really good with his feet and an absolute set piece monster who commands his box I can see why you might sub one for the other if you needed to adapt to the game state.

But I don’t know there’s a huge advantage to it with Ramsdale and Raya because they’re really quite comparable keepers in terms of their strengths.

This is the Casillas debacle back in 2012 all over again.

Imo we should look for a different set of qualities compared to Win. I think we should be after a Boerboel or a Caucasian Shepherd.

We could use a true presence on the training ground, someone who will keep the players on their toes and alert, from the second they step on to the pitch until they leave.

I think we would notice a difference in the focus and the work rate of the players in the games soon. :martinelli:

Arteta is definitively after an inverted fetcher.

Embarrassing. If Ramsdale wasn’t English I doubt this would be a big deal.

What annoys is that having seen similar incidents, it usually ends up creating tension between the manager and player, even if there wasn’t any at first.

I guarantee you Ramsdale’s family and friends are watching this absolutely fuming, thinking he is getting screwed over by Arteta, poor Aaron is gonna get a lot of people in his ear telling him that Arteta’s done him wrong and that he needs to go.

I hope Aaron remembers 2021, when everyone shat on him, his move almost collapsed but Arteta was adamant he wanted him specifically, and within a season changed the narrative around him.

Putting Raya in against PSV was a massive pisstake. Ramsdale deserved the start. It’s not like we would have lost with Aaron in goal, it was a piss easy win and our goalkeeper had nothing to do apart catch a few stray crosses.

I’m happy with Raya being our number 1 going forward, he could play for the rest of the whole season for all I care, but dropping Ramsdale for our first CL game which he helped massively get us to is a kick in the teeth. I’d actually leave the club.

If it was Bayern, Barcelona or some stern test, I would say pick the best option every day.
It was fucking PSV. Ramsdale starting the match would have no bearing on the outcome at all so sometimes it is nice to have some emotion to the decision-making when the stakes are low.

The whole game was symbolic so why not?
It’s nice, It’s cute and we can live with nice & cute against effing PSV at home.

There are better games to be cutthroat at.

Well this two good GK setup usually only lasts for a season or two at most so it’s not like if Ramsdale wants to leave, he’s trapped here. Someone will come in for him.
