2022 World Cup

Are Holland at Norway?

Norway is at Holland.

So these playoffs are just single legged ok.

Yeah, that’s why being seeded is important. You get to play the game at home.

A semi final of Wales v Scotland would be delightful. A bit of controversy to decide the match in eithers favour that leaves them disliking each other for years to come :smiling_imp:

How they gonna decide home team for the final, or will they all be played at neutral venues?

No, they do another draw to determine which of the finalists will be at home

Your very good on all these competitions and stuff.
Are you on UEFA and FIFA apps or something or do you just visit those sites.

Some of the competitions are quite confusing so I like to look them up beforehand. And I follow Dale Johnson from ESPN on Twitter who is like an expert at all the rules and regulations.

Putting that into context they have won 1 game out of 183.
They beat Lichtenstein 1 0 in 2004. They went 14 years without an away goal and concede an average of 4 goals a game.
Nobody’s denying them the right to compete but you’d go a long way in anyother sport were the disparity is this big between countries.
Surely preliminary rounds to make the group stages would be better.
It’s the equivalent of having more CL groups at the moment with all entrants in them.

Love the current system. Whatever the level of their players, all countries play each other on a level playing field. Best eleven v best eleven. No way should we be looking to push countries out that aren’t deemed good enough.

It’s football in its purest form

Level playing field

I’d fancy our chances against anyone of them in a packed Hampden. There’s a brilliant rapore between the fans players and manager currently.

Anything can happen in a one off game so why not. I’m just a little surprised the finals aren’t in neutral venues as it doesn’t seem fair to me. You can kind of understand the semi final seeded setup to give an advantage but don’t think there should be one in any final.

I am new to this world cup playoffs stuff we don’t usually get this far :joy: Is this not what has been done for previous world cups?

New setup it seems

From what I can remember ties are usually two legs

Yeah for the 2018 World Cup there were 9 groups in qualifying. The winners qualified. The best 8 runners up went into four 2-leg playoffs, with the 4 winners qualifying.

This time we had 10 groups. So only 3 places are available in the playoffs.

How did we get an extra group this time?

Old way seemed quite fair tbh lol

Probably to accommodate the Nation’s League. The best two teams from that (who obviously haven’t already qualified) will also be going into the playoffs.
