The VAR referees job according to the rules are to correct/let the ref know when A OBVIOUS mistake has been made on a call. This wasn’t that obvious and different refs would judge this penalty different. In this case the VAR referees should have supported the refs initial decision.
Fuck referees who want to be the centre of attention.

Thats fine but the ref went to them, there clearly wasnt agreement so he watched it himself. Can’t see how you can take issue with the VAR lads here.

If anything it would have to be checked beforehand and not afterwards. Taking free kicks just to undo them a minute afterwards isn’t really much of a great solution either.

Agreed it’s not a great solution. But these things only matter if a goal gets scored so they could at least try starting there and showing that that sort if cheating will be undone even if you profit from it initially.

Then he is to blame, because the VAR job is to point out when they think the ref should have a look. Not interfere first when the ref asks for their opinion. If the ref asked himself they should have said no to a video check.
Don’t badmouth one of my top 10 films of all time by applying logic.
