^ I so wish I had been alive to witness that moment.

It was amazing. Literally the whole world stopped to watch that moment. It was truly inspirational and gave us hope for a future that we’ve spent the past 47 years screwing up.

One thing I loved about the Apollo missions was the TV coverage. In the lead up to the launch and all through the mission and splashdown there was basically nothing else on TV. Just tracking the mission from beginning to end with all sorts of technical stuff. It was a geek’s dream. Here’s a bit of the coverage of the launch of Apollo 8, the first mission to orbit the moon.

CBS News Coverage of The Apollo 8 Part 5

Funny, but I was playing a gig at a USAF base when the TV showed that moon landing event. Only a handful took much notice and kept swigging their Schlitz’s.

People still beleive we landed on the moon ? Reallly ? No surely not ?

Probably the same ones who refuse to face up to the fact that the Queen, the Bushes, the Clintons and others are shapeshifting lizard people.

Nah it’s just a good REM song !
