You know what really grinds my gears?

Similar vein, but windows 11.
Been ignoring the update for ages, but got a new laptop which came with it so had no choice.

Like they’re trying to pamper to the whims of Mac/Tablet users with the layout, hate it

I have no choice. :joy: I ignore it till it automatically restarts

I couldn’t stand working off a laptop haha

My fucking dentist.

Since covid started they’ve been emailing me infrequently.

First it was fuck off, pull out your own teeth.

Then it’s we’re open, massively reduced and seeing emergencies only.

Then it was we have a big backlog because of covid, only come if necessary.

Then it was we have a big backlog because of covid, we’ll endeavour to fit in some routine treatment.

That last one was 8 months ago, so I go to book my routine checkup thinking it’s probably acceptable now and anyone who was desperate has probably already been done, and apparently I now don’t have a dentist anymore because I haven’t been in ages.

NHS dental treatment is a joke in this country. The NHS contract for dental practices does not in any way incentivise dentists to provide treatment to the general public. If you provide one filling or ten in the same course of treatment, you get paid the exact same amount. That means dentists get paid roughly £30 for 1 hours’ work as they do for 10 hours. Why the fuck would a self-employed person willingly do that time and time again.

In the end, practices take on less NHS patients and focus on private patients and treatment. In general, the NHS really lowballs dentists for the work they do. My wife is a massive supporter of the NHS and does what she can, but she’s had to focus more on private treatment because you just don’t get paid enough (which I know sounds crazy) to earn the majority of your income through NHS patients.

Until the current NHS contract is torn up and redrafted, those wait times are only going to get longer and care levels drop even lower.

I sadly know one of the guys who are directly responsible for the NHS dental being what it is today. Trust me when I say he doesn’t know shit about dental care, only how to make himself money.

Fair play to Dentists not taking the shite the NHS tried serving them and telling them to fuck off.

Won’t catch them grafting hard for years to save some dipshit manager some money only for them to use that saving to hire reikle specialists

I thought that by not being on Facebook I’d escape all the “look at my child on their first day of school” posts. But people are sending them over WhatsApp. It’s unsolicited mail! I don’t care what Daisy-Mae looks like in her school uniform! Why do parents think the world needs to see this?!

Kids are social media accessories now.

Out of interest, who is it sending you these snaps on whatsapp? I basically only chat to close mates on whatsapp, and sometimes colleagues for specific work purposes, I guess. But assuming you talk to mates on there, people you know well, wouldn’t they know better than to send photos of their kids to you if its something you dislike this strongly?! Lol

I’m in a few group chats. I expect these pictures in family WhatsApp groups. I’ll allow that, lol. But this one I’m referring to in particular is just a group I’m in with some girls I go to gigs with. We’re not best friends or anything. I’ve never met this woman’s children. And neither has anyone else in the group.

My overall point is more about the general sharing of these sorts of pictures anyway. I remember being on Facebook and the amount of people that would post their child in their school uniform to their 500 “friends”, with school badge showing, was ridiculous. That picture is only interesting to a handful of people - most likely, relatives.

Try mentioning the paedophile angle on this and you get rounded on big time.
Your the biggest kill joy in town. Never ever had a picture of my daughter on social media account.

Yeah, to be fair, it probably is a bit of a dramatic angle. But these things do happen and you can never be too careful where kids are concerned. Takes 2 seconds to edit out a school badge.

Yeah, I get the facebook angle totally, absolutely won’t be putting any pics of my kid on there or any other social media, certainly not of them in identifiable school fucking uniform.

I also just think that they should be able to decide when old enough if they want any of their life on socials, rather than having me taken that decision out if their hands by studiously documenting the first decade of their life or whatever on bloody facebook.

At most, I’ll share a snap or two of them online when they’re a wee bairn, and basically unidentifiable, as all babies look so similar, but that’s it for me. But I see whatsapp a bit differently, as it would be close friends and family I’d share with, rather than it being out there in public.

Someone I know has an Instagram account in their child’s name. Has lots of followers. She is planning on handing it over to the child when they’re 16. Where they will no doubt delete the whole thing
