That’s true tbf. Wrestling can be like that, could be different dynamics by then. Perhaps the crowd turns on Cody by then or some other new shiny babyface is present that the crowd is rooting for more instead.

We did say the same for Cody a while back, same for Sami, same for Drew a year ago, even Seth got tne shout.
Perhaps I’m just too used Jey being a tag guy for so, so long that I have a hard time thinking of him as a singles. Very likely that’s the SummerSlam main event. Last time they faced each other was during the Covid ThunderDome right?

AEW Collision was f’n great btw. Such a good first episode, it had everything. Best AEW in quite some time.
The opening promo was exactly what was needed from Punk, zero fucks given. “Tell me when I’m telling lies!”. Pretty much embracing the tweener role. Cornette said it best but he’s biggest babyface in the company while being the biggest heel too. Chicago ate it all up, crowd lost their mind during a certain face-off. The matches were great and they’re already setting up some interesting feuds.
Hope this works out because this could turn out exactly what I personally like the most. Structured shows with serious storylines and proper matches. None of the nonsense, that’s filtered out and sent to the Dynamite show.

I think it’s a given the next champion won’t be as big a star as Roman because there is nobody in a position so the only alternatives really are someone with a good story (like Jey) or someone you want to build into a new star.
For quite a while when it became clear Roman was going to be champ for a long time, I had a suspicion that the person to beat him could be Bron Breakker. I’m not sure if I do now because they’ve turned him heel. They kept him in NXT long after he needed to be there, gave him a dominant chanpionship run and it has felt like they’re being very careful with his development.
They’ve got him challenging for Seth’s world title soon. I wonder if that is them testing him on the main event level to see if the audience will bite.

I do think this is one WWE should get on board with. They often have a habit of pushing back when a wrestler gets over by themselves rather than by their design, but I really can’t see what more they’re looking for from a star than Knight.
He’ll probably win MitB.

Tbf, as much as I don’t think it’s a good call, I also think it could be a great call too.
There is great potential with him not being around so often. You will never know when he cashes in. It’ll be great PR for them too to have the briefcase on his show every week as well.
