Wrestling

The youtube algorithm provided me with a video on 1997 being a turning point for WWF and it made me wanna watch some wrestling.

Can people recommend the best Attitude Era PPVs please? I think it would be fun to watch one entire show rather than highlights or individual matches, so wanna get the most bang for my buck if I’m investing a few hours.

I’d quite like some TLC type Dudley Boyz//Hardy Boyz/Edge and Christian shit, but it’s no deal breaker and would be very happy with some 90s PPV recommendations (I think they had their matches in the early 00s, but my memory could defs be wrong there)

Even better if you know where I can easily watch them for free lol

TIA

Wrestlemania 17 is the fix you’re looking for.

My personal opinion is the best PPV that WWF produced between 1996-1999 was;

Canadian Stampede 1997. Amazing PPV.

The problem with the Attitude Era is most PPVs had great matches but weren’t great overall events.

For example; Over The Edge 1998 has the best main event of the year in 1998 with Steve Austin vs. Dude Love. But the overall show is distinctly average.

WrestleMania 14 is a good PPV and in my eyes the very beginning of WWF becoming the genuine best promotion. I’d start there and if you enjoy it go down the chronology of 1998 PPVs. The main event scene was amazing around that time with Austin / Taker / Kane / HBK (until March) / Mankind and Dude Love

Some genuine big feuds and Rock / HHH establish themselves as top guys in the second half of 98.

The best PPV ever without a doubt but to me that’s the end of the Attitude Era.

But Leper is absolutely right - nothing tops it. From start to finish it is flawless.

It is definitely the swansong of the attitude era but it saved its best for last.

If attitude era shenanigans and TLC is what you want it’s definitely the right shout.

Survivor Series 1998 isn’t the greatest for in ring quality but it’s attitude storytelling is wonderful nonsense.

Where the fuck is @DavidHillier btw? Haven’t seen him in here in some time.

Edit: Oh, banned till May.

From just the Attitude Era? WM 17, Royal Rumble 2000, Royal Rumble 2001 to name a few. In Your House: Canadian Stampede has an awesome 10 man tag match on it as well, however that’s slightly before the attitude era

Also for TLC I, it’s SummerSlam 2000

I could take other recommendations on board, for sure, but my time watching WWF was pretty much between 97 and around 01/02, so that’s the kind of period I’m interested in watching to give me a solid dose of nostalgia.

I think I prefer 19 :skull:. I haven’t watched either of them in ages but fuck 19 has some bangers. Jericho/Michaels, Angle Brock, Rock Austin 3, even McMahon Hogan.

The way I view them is 17 has consistently good matches but 19 has some average matches but great matches as well

19 was a great PPV too. No doubt about it. They’re definitely the two best Mania PPVs ever.

Check out cagematch.net, it’s a fan review website where people rate PPVs. You can sort it by company and scroll through the years and you can also sort it by rating so you can see highest rated PPVs first

I watched King of the ring 1995 last night. It’s as bad as I remember it being

@GC-Maniac and, of course, @RockyMaivia, would value your input here too :+1:

I don’t know how you’re doing it lol. Except for Bret and HBK I can’t think of a single redeemable thing about wrestling in 1995

Bret is the best in ring worker of all time btw. I’m convinced of it now. HBK is a :goat: in his own right but Bret made everything look real in a way nobody else did

Fully Loaded, Backlash 2000, No Way Out 2001.

Honestly, from 2000-2001 WWE produced some fantastic PPVs that still stand the test of time.

Don’t fucking ask man. SummerSlam 95 is coming up and I know that has a banger on it. Razor/HBK II

It’s annoying that Austin had such an amazing year in 2001 carrying the business yet it’s not remembered as favourably as it should have been because he turned heel at a time they had no top top baby faces to challenge him.
