Fully convinced Vince only sees him as a businessman, not someone he’s not extremely close with, hence why we only ever really see Hogan nowadays for Saudi shows, Mania’s or if ratings are low.
Bischoff said something along the lines of “Sting didn’t even have a tan” as some kind of evidence that Sting wasn’t mentally or physically prepared. . He’s so full of shit. Out of all of the podcasts Conrad Thompson does, I hate 83 weeks with Bischoff because you can tell he’s such a lying rat.
And as for the last part, man Shawn was so difficult in the mid to late 90s wasn’t he? I barely hear a good word said about the guy it’s insane. I understand that apparently the back injury (which conveniently ended in 2002 when his contract with the WWF was up) probably saved his life as he had some serious personal demons and drug / alcohol addictions.
100%. I’d say on a personal level Vince can’t stand the guy but he always does what he thinks is best for business.
You know what though I watched some of his work in Japan at the tail end of his first WWF run and damn Hogan was a much better worker than I ever anticipated.
Oh yea I don’t mean to say that he can’t/couldn’t wrestle (he was limited though) but more so he didn’t love the industry. It was a means to an end in a lot of ways. On a human level you can understand the what you have you hold mentality and in this case he had the spotlight but as a pro wrestling fan that just rankles. You’re supposed to pass the torch with grace.
Absolutely. He just never wanted to pass the torch and the one time he asked to do it (wrongly in my eyes because Warrior was a clown) he tried to steal the moment and then buried Warrior at every opportunity be had by just saying he wasn’t a draw.
Warrior has had bad press tbh. Even the WWE admitted they went in too hard on him to demonise him.
His burying of HHH at that one WM(?) Is very cathartic to watch at times.
Such a dick move though lol.
No sold the pedigree
Could watch that all day
Meh, Warrior is again a guy I’ve not to big on, very limited wrestling ability, and whilst he was charismatic, he was also a massive dick outside the ring, look up the story about the Make-A-Wish kid and you’ll see how much of a piece of shit he was, and refusing to talk to Droz and kept calling him “that cripple”
I don’t know anybody who really liked the guy. He was a cunt as well from all interviews I’ve watched of him, grossly overvalued his worth and just never bothered to try and improve in the business.
There’s a shoot where Jim Cornette and Bruce Pritchard can’t stop laughing when they mention that he opened a wrestling school lol.
He was deluded, unpleasant and unapologetic. Couldn’t stand him.
That entrance tho. :giroud3:
The Rock wanted no business with Shawn despite having a good working relationship with HHH, tells you everything you need to know about him.
One must wonder how things would be different if Vince chose Bret Hart over Shawn. Of course this means Montreal doesn’t happen but Bret losing to Austin at Wrestlemania would of fascinating to ponder. WWF would at least had another Star to make use of. Bret Hart at WCW has to be one of the worst misuses of a Wrestler ever. Given that Shawn was gone by mid-1998.
One must wonder the fate of Owen might of been different too.
Rick Rude decked Warrior in the locker room. True story.
You heard the rumours about the original Warrior dying and being replaced by a like for like wrestler?
Owen was embarrassingly underused by the WWE in 1999.
Mid-carder when his in ring ability deserved better
Yeah, I honestly think after Bret left, they had nothing for him, and Davey and Neidhart knew they would be the same, so they left. Think Owen wanted to prove himself more than anything. Then after that they put him with the Nation of Domination, then stuck him with Jeff Jarrett and put the Blue Blazer gimmick back on him.
I think Y2J said it best when you thought of thr talent WWE were on the cusp of bringing in- Guererro, Benoit, Rey Mysterio. They would have complemented Owen’s talents.
It would have been a reconnaissance.
So sad
Man what I would of gave to have seen Owen vs Benoit, Owen vs Eddie. Also think Owen would of worked great against current guys like Rollins, Bryan, AJ and Aleister Black.
It’s bizarre given the WWF Roster as a whole really wasn’t in a great state until about late 1999. They still could’ve done with more stars and they clearly agreed with that narrative with the massive signing of ECW and WCW talent that would be well known in 2000.
Not to mention the Intercontinental Title scene was a mess after the Nation/DX Feud ended and was kind of shite until Chris Jericho/Chyna started in 2000. Owen could’ve been used more for sure.
