Wolves Vs Arsenal (PL)

Yep

In the 1960s, Burnley F.C. chairman Bob Lord successfully convinced fellow [Football League] chairmen that televised matches on a Saturday afternoon would have a negative effect on the attendances of other football league games that were not being televised and as a result reduce their financial income.

As a result, the FA do not permit English matches to be televised live between 2:45pm and 5:15pm on a Saturday

Some stupid fucking rule because they think the Exeter city fans wont go watch them if they can watch the PL games on the tv at 3.

Worst thing in football this fucking thing

Imagine the cash they could get for those TV broadcasts now

They already do world wide

It is an old outmoded idea, total bullshit. Here, we get all the Edmonton Oilers NHL games, home and away, and even with the team in a string of shit seasons the rink sells out three nights a week.

Imagine that. People still want to go watch ice hockey live even though every game is on the tv. Someone should tell the FA this.

How does the Exeter City FCā€™s of the NHL cope with no one at their games tho? :xhaka:

Struggling in the minor leagues. Much like Exeter.

Filling that rink even happens in the dead of winter nights when any sane person doesnā€™t put their head out of the door. Go figure.

Itā€™s religion up here, but itā€™s weird, even teams in warmer climates, traditional non-hockey areas like California, Florida, Texas, etc., still fill their arenas. Some of that is Canadian snowbirds (those who ā€˜winterā€™ down there).

The NFL has a system of blackouts that basically go info effect if a game isnā€™t sold outā€¦ so local TV will be blacked out for the networks if the team doesnā€™t sell the home game out. Iā€™m not sure if that still happens, but I would guess so.

I understand the logic behind the 15:00 blackout. What I donā€™t understand is why they allow games to happen at 12:30 and 17:30 on the same day.

The logic that would make you not watch the 15:00 game is surely the same logic that makes you watch the 12:30 and 17:30 games.

Thereā€™s no way most people can watch the 12:30 kick off until it finishes, get to a live game and get to your seat within 30 minutes, and then get home in time for the 17:30 kick off unless you live in walking distance to a stadium.

A lot probably do to be fair. Certainly lower down the league. Ainā€™t no one going to watch Scunthorpe unless you live there

Does any other European country with a big league have a nonsense rule like this?

No. Of course not. Itā€™s just the UK.

Not to sound like a pedant but is it a UK rule affecting all UK leagues or just an English/England one?

Not pedantic at all!

If Iā€™m right itā€™s English league games only

Affects all Scottish games aswell

The streaming service, founded by Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani, has twice shown [La Liga] games at 3.15pm on Saturdays in recent weeks, despite UEFAā€™s article 48 banning the broadcast of live football between 2.45pm and 5.15pm.

However, that rule, which has been in place since the late 1950s, is now only enforced in England, Montenegro and Scotland

People watch that do they? :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Really canā€™t see us getting 3 points. Our away form is terrible, weā€™ll probably see Mustafi starting in either a back four or back three and our midfield will still be cobbled together from whoever is available. Iā€™d rather see Iwobi in midfield than Elneny, Iā€™d rather see a traffic cone in defense than Mustafi but alas weā€™ll probably end up seeing both Elneny and Mustafi start.

Itā€™s just not great at the moment. Weā€™ll probably lose at Wolves and than put all our eggs in the Europa League basket.
