William Saliba (2)

I can’t see either Saliba wanting to leave us yet, or Arsenal being prepared to let him go. My money is on him signing a new contract with us in the summer.

Anything from French media can get in the bin.

The last genuine quote I saw was Saliba saying he’s happy here, the club has already proven it can compete for trophies so it’s up to him and the rest of the players to get over the line.

Good move from Berta :+1:

We have to respond to all the noise outside.

I thought we already established that GFFN has no credibility? He’s not even French lol he’s a random English basement nerd.

Expecting more from his next season if he wants a massive contract. Not impressed with him at times this year.

Still very young and exceptional talent but more prone to errors.

Crept in quite a bit this season

I agree with the sentiment regarding this season but I don’t think we should overthink it and start to get picky and choosy about Saliba, lets just get him to sign that fucking contract as soon as we can please.

Shits the bed on the regular nowadays. Maybe he should go to Madrid.

Nowhere near as good without Gabriel holding his hand. If Madrid think signing him will solve the defensive problems, they’re fucked.

Gabriel is very clearly better than Saliba. Reminds me of when Mertesacker made Koscielny look class back in the day

Yup, Gabriel won the race
Thanks fuck that Saudi transfer didn’t happen.

Gabriel’s cleared Saliba for about 3 years straight imho. Didn’t expect Saliba’s level to drop so much though.

Saliba was the better one in 22/23 for sure, his runs on the ball are goated but he doesn’t do them now.

Just watching the first goal again:

Too far inside and high up for the initial long ball. Just about recovers cos of his pace and gakpo absolutely fumbling.

Then from the throw (tbh he could’ve tried harder to play out but whatever) he’s the closest one and just jogging towards the throw, watches it get taken and thrown to Robertson wide open…rather than close down…stands there pointing to Odegaard to close the ball while Saliba drops back very slowly behind white.

Not only that but he drops behind white presumably to mark gakpo or attack the ball that comes in. What does he do? Fucking neither, stands too high up when nobody can be offside and not close enough to affect Gakpo.

AWFUL in about 4 instances.

Saliba was the better in the first half of that season, Gabriel then took over in the remainder before Saliba got injured.
I would say since 2023 Gabriel has been far and away our best defender.

Most Arsenal fans have smartened up on it but it does annoy me whenever I hear neutrals ignorantly pick Saliba over Gabriel. I do think the last couple of months may have changed that though.
Not even a shade at Saliba, Gabriel for me has been the CB in the world period and he just doesn’t get the recognition he deserves.

What was it that Ornstein said? Saliba wants a contract reflecting of his status as one of the best defenders in the world?

How about a contract that’s reflecting Kiwior looking better at CB than him since Gabriel’s injury?
And don’t get me started with us looking x10 better defensively when Calafiori came on in his place at HT.

Forget about Madrid my brother, you’re not ready. They’ll eat you alive with these performances.
