Yeah, and when you’re in your 30s, even as a very fit 30+ year old, that drop-off could come out of nowhere and there’s usually not much you can do about it.
Benzema is a good example. Won the Ballon D’Or after an excellent campaign, struggled with fitness issues the following season and his level wasn’t the same either. One of the reasons why he took the Saudi offer.
Agree. If we won the league next season and sold Saliba and Odegaard, I could stomach it.
Bit different for Liverpool though as three of their biggest stars could leave in a free. Two of them leaving on a free would be crippling.
If we had Saliba, Odegaard and Saka running down contracts and decided to hold on to them because we were confident of winning the league, then went on to do it, I’d be very happy. Of course there will be a rebuilding process but what good is cashing in to rebuild when the league is up for grabs.
