Get a proper LW is better than getting another one, especially LB, to “help” Martinelli.
How much would Kieran Tierney cost? Would love the option of an overlapping full back but it doesn’t seem to be Arteta’s preference.
Calafiori is our best bet for an overlapping left back. He’s better as a CB but he was a traditional left back until he got to Bologna. But his hamstrings might explode if we ask him to run up and down the touchline for 90 minutes.

I agree, it’s more difficult to defend against individual brilliance than it is against a team that’s predictable.

True. Hence it is often said defenses in 2000s were weak, when in fact they were not. There were quite a few quality defenders during that time who were just beaten by brilliant individual performances.

I don’t get the feeling Odegaard nor Saka are really limited in expressing themselves seeing them play. The question with Martinelli is rather can he do better and/or doesn’t the set up limit him in a way. I’d assume it’s easier to play and combine with somebody like Odegaard behind you than Rice or Merino.

I think Madueke will end up owning that LW spot this season anyway.
Because we need squad depth and we must not weaken the squad by selling him. Trossard can go if we sign Rodrygo or Barcola. Eze is completely separate.

Is this your reaction to preseason? I did a quick search for the word ‘overlap’ posted by yourself since January and this is the only time I see it mentioned…Not felt like this anytime last season?
