A back-up right winger would make it a 10/10 and Sekso shades it over The Gyok for me (based mostly on vibes) but either will be great.

and extend Partey, and it’s an almost perfect window.

MLS will likely be in midfield and (if we get hato) he will take over at LB

Given the uncertainty over Partey’s future, I think we need to start thinking about potential replacements. I don’t think the intention was to go into the next season losing both Jorginho and Partey and not replacing both of them. Zubimendi replaces Jorginho, so we should be looking to replace Partey if he leaves. Couple of options I think we should consider:

Two younger options are:

  • Carlos Baleba (Brighton) - looks like he has the potential to be one of the best CDM/CM in the PL in a few years;
  • Lucien AgoumĆ© (Sevilla) - looks like an excellent prospect.

Or we could go more experienced with a couple of players we have been linked with previously:

  • Amadou Onana (Villa) - Villa may need to sell for PSR reasons;
  • Douglas Luiz (Juventus) - apparently club are open to sale and being linked to other PL clubs.

Any other players?

Huh, I forgot about Douglas Luiz potentially being available. Juve may even consider a loan.

Personally, I like the option of signing a defender that can play LB and letting Zubimendi, Rice and MLS being our options at DM.

Luiz on loan would be great but can’t see Juve not trying to desperately claw back some of the fee.

Rather keep Partey but if he leaves then Zubi is the starter and we could do worse than Luiz as a backup. Think MLS moves to midfield the following season and stays as our LB this one.

Doubt he’ll play much there with Zubimendi and Rice being ahead of him for now anyway.

Let’s be honest, having both Zubimendi and Partey was always a bit overkill and a headache, a positive headache mind you because you’d have two of the best pivots at your disposal and only one would be starting each game.

I still hope they work out something and keep Partey for another season. That kind of depth could be a game changer for us if we want to fight for both CL and PL.

Reports seem to suggest Luiz could be available to loan with an obligation to buy for Ā£25m. Personally, wouldn’t be adverse to this an as option.

As for buying a defender, I think we will do that in any case. The Hato links seem strong, but I would expect him and MLS to alternate at LB for most of the season. I can see us trying MLS out in midfield, but can’t see us going into next season with him playing there regularly. Given the depth of the squad, and that Tierney has left, and Zinny looks like he will be sold, I think we will buy a defender and another midfielder (if Partey leaves).

Would rather keep Partey, but Louis would be a good pick especially if he is available on loan.

Luiz loan with no obligation would be best. It’s another Sterling situation - someone who has to prove they can be available and perform to a decent level. Imagine we loan for 25/26, purchase for 26/27…he’s never going to usurp anyone in the team and will have very little resale value. He’s still got 4years on his contract at Juve, so I say let it be their problem.

Agoume should be fine, and a bargain. May allow for a bit to spend on a young attacking midfielder like Moleiro, who I believe has a reasonable release clause.

UCL king to end our duck in the comp? :eyes:

Douglas Luiz would be an absolute dog shit signing.

Although he seems to be much better suited to England than Italy. Maybe just a case of the league not being right for him but I’m not a fan. Think he’s just nothing special even at his best.

With Lyon in financial trouble and considering our needs, I don’t think there’s a better market opportunity.

Doug or Norgaard :thinking:

I mean if it’s a straight shoot out I’m picking Luiz as the better signing

I’ve never been a Douglas Luiz fan at all, but I have to agree. If it’s between Norgaard and Doug, I’m choosing the Brazilian

We could probably get him in on loan and do what the Italian teams do to us.

Juventus are desperate to get him off the books. He didn’t suit playing in Italy at all but he’s proven to be a good PL player with bags of experience.

I’d rather the loan with option to buy or sending them an offer of about €20m than signing dross like Norgaard.

Let’s raid them, for fun a.

I think the sticking point would be Juve trying to avoid an option to buy and I think there will be other PL sides that will be willing to satisfy that.

The one I was thinking personally was Palhinha. Hasn’t worked out at Bayern and they will probably be open to moving on this summer. Only blocker would be whether he’s open to switching benches ahead of the World Cup, I think he’ll fancy a team where he gets regular time instead.

We should really be on that case
