Thierry Henry

YEah 02-03 he had 20 + goals and assists and in 03-04 he had a lazy 30 goals 7 assists I think.

Yeah I think you’re right numbers wise. Henry in 02-04 was incredible and I’d say is the very best player to ever play in England.

I’ll just add, he was just as good in 2005 and 2006. Imo his two best season were 2002/03 and 2005/06, 2003/04 and 2004/05 were pretty close one to each other, and just slightly behind 03 and 06.

…

Just accidentally found this too, not much footage of his Juve days out there. A collector’s item.

He should have won the FIFA World Player of the Year at least once.

The year that they gave it to nedved Henry was the best player hands down that year

The best chance was definitely in 2003.
I said it already, I had nothing against Nedved in front of him that year (Nedved won the Ballon d’or), but imo it would be fair Henry got the other top award at least - the FIFA poty award. Zidane won it and that was a joke, Henry was comfortably better than him that year. Zidane only came fifth for Ballon d’or that year.
Just a reminder, Henry came second in both votes.

2006 was a good chance, too.

If FIFA are only being snobs and looking at final appearances/wins etc, then Henry reached the CL and WC final that year.

Cannavaro won it for Italy’s boring WC win.

Yeah.
2006 was the breaking point for me and since then I don’t take those awards too serious.

They basically only judged it on the World cup performances that year. In reality it was between Henry and Ronaldinho.

The awards are shit.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice for defenders to be recognised, but Henry was a better player than Cannavaro in 2006 based on where he dragged his club and country.

I know it’s popular to shit on Nedveds win but he was probably the best player in the CL that year. He won Serie A player of the year, foreign player of the year, UEFA best midfielder awards and also won the Serie A and took his team to the final of the CL.

If Henry won it, it wouldn’t have been controversial but Nedved himself was a supreme player and there’s a strong case for him being the best in the world that year.

@Pires @Stroller @Calum @Electrifying

You know the only Scotsman to have won the World player of the year award?

Both Nedved and Henry deserved it that year. Really close.
Neved was one of my biggest idols among footballers in those years. Had his poster on my room doors actually. :xhaka2:

Nah. 2006 was only Ronaldinho’s year he won the CL and La Liga and was the best player in the world despite an underwhelming World Cup. Giving it to Henry in 2006 would have been farcical.

Is it big Kenny?

Nope

Nahh, farcial? Henry was pushing Arsenal just as much as Ronaldinho was pushing Barca in the CL that year. Also a brilliant season in the PL.
Barca being the better and more successful team that year doesn’t improve Ronaldinho’s performances.
Henry’s slightly better world cup perfomance arguably gives him the edge (not too important), although I wouldn’t mind Ronaldinho winning it that year. Again, not much between them that year. Cannavaro was the joke.
