Spent today getting rid of subscriptions. Disney plus (£13), Spotify Premium (£11.99) and Xbox live Ultimate (£22) gone. Also deleted betting account, not a subscription but similar premise. I do £20 a weekend as routine, rarely win!
Only have a gym membership and Netflix remaining. Feel lighter
Only subscription I use these days is YouTube premium. I think if memory serves me right that was like £8.99 or something along those lines now I pay £12.99 but still feels like value for money
Spotify, Netflix and all that other junk is long gone
Honestly I think it was @JakeyBoy who recommended I get rid of Spotify an I’d never go back. Have access to all the same stuff as Spotify with the added benefit of stuff you can only find on YouTube.
These are the two biggies that have no desire to give my money towards. I’ve never had the dilemma with Spotify, since I’ve always been an aficionado when it comes to buying physical music media. Besides funding weapons tech, Spotify smuggle AI music into their playlists as a means to pay less towards the artists. I cancelled Prime because Bezos is a cunt, amongst many other reasons.
Not really set up my turntables for the time I’ve been in CA - mostly because my home environment isn’t suitable with the two boys running around - I could see many a stylus being destroyed as well as some of my favorite records. I was using YouTube music as a means to find new music and decide if I wanted to buy the album, but now it has become more of a go to for listening.
I watch a lot of content on YouTube, but thinking of trying out Nebula, since many of the creators I follow exist on that platform.
Considering going with iPhone in January when my S24 Ultra is paid up. I’ve been Android ever since my first contract in 2011, but the pace of innovation at Samsung has dried up like a prune, and a lot of customisation that used to be heavily tilted in Android’s favour is now on iOS.
As a photographer, I also think companies are more inclined to work with iPhone than Android. Leica for instance, has an exclusive camera app on iOS and I’d kinda like to try that.
If your priority is the camera, then it feels like a no brainer since iPhone really gets the camera right and the screen really makes the pictures look good.
The ProRes videos also look amazing. The latest option in selfie camera where you get different resolution from single camera is handy.
From innovation perspective, I don’t see what iPhone brings to the table that already hasn’t been done on Android 5 years ago.
On my second IPhone (got the 17 last week) after being BlackBerry then Android for around 12 years. All much of a muchness for me but I will say that the IPhone feels a bit more slick. Wanted the S27 but couldn’t be arsed to wait so stick with Apple.
It’s probably SNES vs Megadrive. Depends on what you like.
18 Pro/Max is rumoured to have a variable aperture lens, which Samsung had years ago and took away the ability to set it manually between f1.5 and f2.4, and whilst they’ve certainly updated the camera a number of times in the two years I’ve had my S24U, the ‘native res’ 50 and 200mp modes are absolutely awful, full of noise and AI guesswork.
