I suppose I just question the logic of someone who literally months ago was out campaigning to become a Labour MP, pushing the merits of the Labour manifesto and then deciding after a very short time as a Labour MP that she wants to resign.
It is the same outcome. I suppose I still think it would be fair for the electorate to have the final say on whether they want an Independent MP or not.
What Starmer got elected on as Labour Party Leader is very different to the Starmer now.
Again, if this doesnāt persuade you. Thatās okay. What if you were a Tory MP elected in 2019? Did you sign up for Liz Trussās batshit fantasy?
By the way, I do agree with you and think there should be a by-election or something. Not for any of these reasons, I think constituents should consent to their MP essentially going maverick.
I think recalls are possible in certain circumstances (not this) which i think is a good mechanism.
Defection or leaving a party probably happens more here than the UK but weāve also always had a tradition of electing independents anyway so perhaps its just a case of more exposure to it makes me more comfortable with it.
But ultimately, i just donāt see it as a big deal and certainly not something that should trigger an election.
I agree with you here, but the MP is not resigning because of she doesnāt like the way Starmer has changed the party. Starmer set out his parties manifesto and she signed up to it.
I agree with you here, and this would be justified, but again, Starmer hasnāt changed course.
Is this the first thing you have agreed with me on?
If there were a by election in Canterbury I would be interested to see the results.
Could be the first Tory regain from Labour. Labour arenāt that popular in this part of the world, the winter fuel thing went down like a lead balloon and thereās a big student vote that arenāt likely to be passionately supporting Starmerās brand of bland Tory-lite.
Duffield could win if she was inclined to run, or the Tories could easily get it back if she and Labour split the vote. It was a cast iron Tory seat before she won.
Thereās been some demographic change (Not sure about Canterbury, quite an expensive place) but when I vote itās usually see the same type of people. Pensioners, Middle aged folk who would show up if it was pissing down with rain. Iām sure much of Kent is the same.
Rosie Duffield got 10k less votes in 2024 than in 2019, was assisted by a massive Tory collapse and Reform UK vote split following the trend for Labour in the GE. 2019 and 2017 was razor thin in terms of margins.
Only just caught Starmerās Sky interview with Beth Rigby about the gratuities heās accepted.
Hilarious seeing him try to turn the tables by talking about how Sky invite politicians to lavish events only for her to reply that those are work events, and to ask him if a Taylor Swift concert is a work event, only for him to weakly respond that thatās a call for individual MPs to make.
This is by far his worst lie yet. Itās absolutely disgraceful to lie and say Iran aimed 200 missiles at civilian targets with absolutely no foundation. This is contradicted by what fucking Israel have said themselves!
This guy just keeps on exceeding my expectations for how much of a cunt he is, itās almost impressive.
