Probably should have read that article.

This topic has been an interesting read tonight and I donā€™t really know where to jump in but my 2 cents are:

  • Itā€™s an extremely difficult topic to find an answer that everyone will agree to. Too many inter twining elements such as religious beliefs will complicate a linear solution, and the posts on this topic are a token of that.

  • Itā€™s great schools have taken this step imo. To what extent are the schools responsible for such topics and is it down to us as parents (I am not one so far) to socialise offspring? For me personally growing up, my parents were fantastic in introducing these concepts to me to expose me to them. To be clear, Iā€™m not saying schools should take no responsibility.

It shouldnā€™t be about teaching to coerce a behaviour, absolutely - but letā€™s not forget that this is not just about acceptance. If certain young people realise at a young age that what they biologically are going through is not abnormal, then that equally is fantastic!

It is generally good news. But on the issue of teaching gender fluidity it will lead to thousands of law suits in a few years as teens undergo permanent surgery many of which will regret it, and then theyā€™ll sue government and schools for child abuse. Itā€™s as plain as day.

The law doesnā€™t allow transition until after 18 right? And after numerous assessments? Iā€™d say thatā€™s about right personally. Itā€™s not a decision that should be taken lightly.

Thatā€™s the thing though, it isnā€™t.

Schools also have a legal obligation to educate.

Or younger with parental consent, I think. But I feel this is only the beginning. I read an article today about a 15 year old taken into care because her parents refused her the right to transition. The trend is definitely for more of this and younger.

As a teacher all I can say is how skilled are we going to be at delivering this. Iā€™ll probably get a 2hr training session led by someone who in turn has had a 2 hr training session. Schools forever implement fads only to realise they were shit. Iā€™m more worried about secondary education than Primary as it will require a lot more. Thereā€™s some serious batshit coming from the Trans activists these days to make me more than a little concerned.

Aahhhh didnā€™t realise you were a teacher, so apologies on my behalf for my obnoxiousness!

I now totally understand why you have your point of view. Not one I can personally challenge through much knowledge or expertise either

My concern is that transitioning has a long way to go before it is perfect for adults, let alone be introduced to kids & impressionable teenagers.

This was just few days ago

I think social media platforms reinforce an ideology even further. This goes across the board on many social issues, largely the two being discussed above, LGBT/Religion.

With this in mind, immediately excluding the physical social interaction from a range of scenarios in any of these given fields is a detriment to that person(s). And itā€™s easy to access these places to form extreme opinions. Imagine logging into these pigeonholed areas of the internet everyday, gathering information, reenforcing your opinions/being influenced by narcissistic or bigoted people. Itā€™s scary.

Rabbit hole your way into tumblr posts, sub-reddits and even further into decrepit places like 4chan and there are serious ideologies being enforced. They donā€™t translate well into the real world because society, older generations moreso, are only just scraping the top of the more generalised versions of these movements.

Basically, Iā€™m fine with younger people being educated about these social issues early on in the physical world (schools) because it may help them figure things out before delving into the digital realm where views can center around the raw subject however leave that young person feeling confused, angry or frustrated because they canā€™t translate this properly irl.

Very true about being pigeon holed by internet into reinforcing one set of viewpoints and almost everyone gets manipulated by that.
YouTube is biggest culprit in that regards. If you see one conservative video, your timeline just get flooded with similar videos.

So I guess I am coming on board with allowing a non biased education to kids in a physical environment.

Yeah Iā€™ve become disillusioned by many on on the left over this. The moronic kind that have no idea about nuance.

However Iā€™m glad at least up here there is some discussion starting.

But again the poor (almost 100% women) MPs and activists that speak up about having a frank discussion are railed against.

Itā€™s a disgrace. But hopefully now people are waking up there will be some pushback.

We just canā€™t get over it, can we?

Right wing nationalism is on the rise. Honestly, Iā€™m surprised this doesnā€™t happen more.

Confirmed yet?

No. The details of the Utrecht incident are scarce right now.

If I could inject some lightheartedness in this bad timeā€¦ Sky News just said ā€œletā€™s see if we can listen in to this press conference (with a Dutch politician)ā€ and they went to the feed only to hear him speaking Dutch and then quickly realised their mistake and went to a break.

20 wounded, 1 dead so far in a shooting inside a tram in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Retaliation for New Zealand? I canā€™t see this end well. It will end up in a vicious circle of killings.

UNCONFIRMED: A shot also reported in an area of Utrecht that contains a mosque.

Therefore, the Police have advised all mosques in the city to close for the day.

Smh so sad whatā€™s happening. Hope any of our Dutch members are far away from the area
