Every season there tends to be a mid-tier striker/forward that hits a purple patch and scores 15 or more goals a season. One and done, never to hit those heights again.
Jackson got 14 goals and 5 assists last season, so he seems like a decent bet for this season, especially when the other poll options are mostly a bunch of players I know fuck all about.
Second vote was sentimentally cast for Nketiah. I’d like to see it happen more than I think it will lol.
Which makes me think… get in here and support your boy, @SRCJJ. Unless memory fails me, you’re pretty steadfast in your opinion that he’s a 15 PL goals a season striker, right? Sure I remember once discussing this with you.
I didn’t vote for Eddie as I interpreted @Flexo poll to be about a one season wonder. I think Eddie can hit 15 goals a season more than once which is why I went down the Chris Wood route.
However having just checked it seems like Wood has had two PL seasons where he has around 14 or so league goals and looks on course to hit it this season to.
Mbuemo started last season like this as well. He had 4 goals by now. Then hardly anything. Granted, he had the injury, but still.
I don’t even think Mbuemo should ever be considered a one season wonder anyway. He’s consistently been one of Brentford’s best players since the Championship days. I know we’re talking about goals, but he does more than that, he’s not even an actual striker.
I fully agree with @JakeyBoy about Jackson being the safest bet here. The fucker seems to be the first choice there no matter how bad his finishing is, plus they are usually creating plenty of chances, so he’s definitely in a pole position for this one.
Actually I can’t still exclude the possibility of him turning into a top striker no matter how shit his finishing is atm.
Among otheres there aren’t obvious candidates imo. I just picked Eddie for obvious reasons, but I’m still not sure how much actual game time he’ll get considering how good Mateta was towards the end of the season (although that might be just a purple patch).
Mbeumo and Fullkrug I’m backing for decent returns this season. Mbeumo has already been a big contributor for Brentford for a few years now so wouldn’t surprise me if he has a solid campaign provided a clean bill of health this time. Fullkrug is a bit of a coup for West Ham. He’ll suit the Premier League once he’s settled.
Don’t think Jackson will be a one season wonder quality wise, he can bag 15 more than once but more likely he gets replaced next summer so drops off that way.
Joao Pedro has the hallmarks of a one season banger.
